We've seen this low but lower with edu discount ($998). Looks like Sony is clearing up inventory to make way for the new Sony A7 V. My prediction is it will remain at 33 MP, but improved IQ, same 5.69M dot EVF, same LCD screen as A7R V, ai chip like A7c ii, better video capabilities.
A7 IV might come down to 2k price and the new A7 V will be at $2,498.00 or more.
At the same time they might announce an A1 ii with global shutter. Also A7S IV with a higher MP to be able to shoot 8k. I am predicting this summer or by Oct.
edit: price an A1 ii

No, i doubt the future a7V will come out this year. I expect it next year and it might be a global shutter now. If it does indeed have a global shutter, then the a7iv will still retain its high resale value as a rolling shutter.
Just bought a used A7 III from a coworker today with the stock lens and a few other goodies for $900, but if i didn't I'd be all over this with my Prime card and points. Such an awesome camera, and a HUGE step up from my T3i haha

You saw that upgrade because you were in dinosaur age camera to modern entry level pro full frame body. You should have checked canon equivalent for mirrorless system like R6 and it blows a7III out of the water.

There's no question that the R6 is a great camera, but you're essentially saying "hey, check out this camera that's double the price of the deal you got, but...without a lens".

Maybe you didn't see that i got it for $900 with the lens. And I'm not spending R6 money for the issues that come along with it.

I got my R6 for $1099 refurbished and canon's refurbished warranty is superb. I agree lens ecosystem is bit mess in RF. But if you can afford RF L lenses, they are superb and blows any third party lenses out of the water. A7III has serious shutter failure issue as well. Look at the Facebook page you would know. Not to mention color science.

if you did pay 1099, I'm pretty damn sure you got an R8….
I am already deep in the Sony Ecosystem, but if I werent, I would be considering the EOS R8. I have seen that drop to $1000 refurbished.
Sony needs to come down on their pricing. Their Cameras are going to be niche products at this rate. My cousin asked what camera she should buy. She needed a kit and a zoom lens, and her budget was around $500. What could I suggest in Sony for that budget?
She ordered the refurb Canon R100+kit and 55-210 for $399.

Nope, I got R6 refurbished. Also I saved another $109.90 (10%) with canon's upgrade program. All I got to do was give canon representative my dslr camera or lens's serial number.
pretty sweet deal. R6 has been my daily video camera. R5 is my main camera. I liked the autofocus of R8 but it doesn't have IBIS and one card slot kills the deal. I don't care much about resolution and 20mpx is way more than enough.
