Ban won't matter if you already bought it

It's not to protect you. It's because American drone manufacturer's cannot compete due to higher price and shittier product. So they lobbied the politicians to ban DJI. Lobbying is how most things are done at the Capitol.

Show me where we see that existing equipment would be grandfathered in. Because everyone in the DJI forums and on Reddit are showing nothing but a total ban on all existing and new hardware.
How exactly are they gong to enforce that? Will they send police units to look for people flying drones, check if their drones are made by DJI and confiscate them? Or even search homes without warrants? How are we any better than the CCP if that's what actually happens?

I did not say anything about this nebulous "grandfathering" concept people throw around. Please read what i wrote carefully.

You're choosing to be pedantic.

You intimated that the ban/grounding legislation making its way through congress wouldn't immediately affect previously purchased equipment. Common concensus is that it most likely will, but there has been no definitive answer from anyone, and no links, quotes or verified information one way or the other.

Best to buy with the idea that you may have to return what congress makes a non-functional unit.

Are these going to be banned? I am reading online that there is legislation submitted to ban all DJI drones because they are Chinese in origin.

You already have to sideload the app on Android phones.

Another option is to buy the remote control with the screen separately, I'd assume no app needed then.
I've been running mine (mini 3 pro) with the LCD screen controller and I dont think there is any need to download the app (as far as I know)

Does it have zoom? I have Mavic Air 2, but this function was removed and I miss it so much.

Is Costco likely to knock some $$$ off the Pro bundle, or is this purely the Mini? Never owned/flown a drone, have some spare cash, looking for a tech toy to muck with. Had been thinking of getting into FPV racing / seems cool, but iirc the min $$$ to get into that is much higher.

I mean, it certainly will affect your ability to fly it.

The ban is worrisome. I have a Mavic Pro. The original one from 2017. And there is no way I can fly it anymore. The DJI GO app says it is not allowed in my region. The reason is it is too big and it never could get remote id. But they can make it impossible to use the drones...

Oh yeah, how are you planning to get the required unlock request from DJI without an internet connection for extended periods.

You're so confident about it. Enjoy. I'm sure you'll have zero problems with all the things countless folks are talking about happening if the ban passes.
I'm good thanks. Just wanted to set the record straight.

If you have LAANC approval and are trying to fly outside of whatever safe database you installed then yeah, it gets more complicated.

Drones are now banned in any nice place, the only thing you can use it for is to inspect your roof and gutters.
Anyone have this or another model they use only for tasks like this? I've been wanting a drone just for things like looking at my roof, gutters, trees, etc. Would this be good for that or is there an even cheaper model that would suffice?

The basis for this is competition. Same as all other sanctions against China. In terms of price/quality there is nothing on the market that is even close to DJI. For this reason I suspect they may ban only new sales. If so, this may cause a situation similar to RTX 4090 - scalpers will snatch everything on the market.
