The $999 fare is a great deal, and I can attest that the IcelandAir lounge in KEF is one largest and most comfortable I've been in.

Definitely recommend if these airports fit your travel agenda.
Catch a ride to Europe and layover for hotel cost only in Keflavik or Reykjavik.
That's a great deal for a Europe trip. I can see a 10 day Europe trip costing much less than expected at these rates.

The wife and I did a 2 week self-drive loop of the ring road a few years ago... in October! Nobody around and highly recommended.

First, Keflavik airport is a 40 minute ride/drive from Reykjavik. The bus is $60-70 round trip into the city.
Second, a lot of the secondary attractions and interpretive centers (smaller museums) close for the season on Sept 30th. If you're going to party and board a bus full of tourists to the popular, crowded attractions, or booking local all-inclusive tours onto the glaciers, you won't notice (except in your wallet).
Third, if you're going to drink, alcohol is expensive. Like $9-10+/pint. It may be one of the few places that picking up alcohol in the duty free shop before you leave the airport is actually a slick deal.

It sounds like the Blue Lagoon is not what I remember from 20 years ago but hopefully it hasn't gotten *too* touristy.
Always had interest in Iceland after Netflix's Eurovision movie lol - yaya Ding Dong. I know it wont be a visit to Iceland, but would be super happy with my wife to experience the landscapes from birds eye view for now.
Thank You again!

That said, I did book BOS to FAE (Faroe Islands) for October. $430 pp was a pretty good deal.
