Any blend is an automatic waste, with finches and sparrows just dumping the seeds they don't want on the ground. I'd go with sunflower kernels to minimize waste.

I used to think that and switched to all sunflower seed. It took a while, but I realized some of the "regulars" weren't showing up anymore. I bought a bag of the blended and added it to the sunflower seeds and the other guys returned. Note that the blend wasn't one of the cheapies with mostly fillers, but a better one with decent seeds. No leftovers.

We have a very large assortment of birds that come to our feeders.

I wouldn't say it is a waste. You are right that the smaller birds eat what they want from the feeder(s), but we find that nothing goes to waste as blackbirds, doves and other birds eat whatever falls to the ground. We have an assortment of feeders, trays and tubes we use with different types of seeds, suet cakes, etc and nothing seems to go to waste. In this weather though filling the bird baths numerous times a day is the big job as they drink and splash around and the water goes out.

I have nothing against blends. This product is advertised as "waste-free," but it isn't.

If you have your feeders set up away from your dwelling, birds will clean up what falls to the ground, and so will rodents.

For those of us who have feeders on our porches, this product will be thrown to the ground by sparrows and finches, creating waste and attracting rodents.

So, for those looking specifically for waste-free, this isn't it.
