Where's the USB-C port? On the side?

EDIT: Check the Dell documentation and uses a proprietary USB-C cable in the side. Also documentation is from 2018. This is a 6 year old dock.

We had 100s of these at my last company and the failure rate was staggering...

Not bashing on this particular model or dell, just a remind that people should read description and ideally manufacture manual, carefully. Some claim having 2x4K, then fineprint says only one 4K at a time, the other one down to 1080; Other says if VGA is used, then all ports are 1080; Still others having a GB RJ45, but if you connected with type-c, all ports downgrade to USB 2.0, so you get 1/3GB. It's a WWW out there

15 in the model # means release year, so it's even older than that

If I remember correctly, this one only works on windows as it requires some proprietary drivers installed on windows

These are not thunderbolt, they will only support 4k at 30hz.

I use this for a Macbook Pro with an M1 Pro chip. Previously used it with a Thinkpad P51. Works just fine for most usecases. Doesn't support super high resolution/framerates e.g. I have as 38" ultrawide and the FPS is really low when using the docks HDMI port. Pretty solid otherwise.

Yes, it has a proprietary USB C cable. I had to replace mine and it took a few minutes and like $20 from an ebay listing for the cable.

It's amazing to me how bad docks are. I have had 3 docks for different laptops at work, two Dell and one HP, and none of them have been good. It seems like a relatively simple piece of hardware compared to a laptop, but these things just don't work well. The best one I've had, required me to restart the laptop every few days so that USB devices would connect again. The HP one straight-up stopped working.

I don't know why people put up with this.
