If it brings you enjoyment, then it is worth the $100. I'd just recommend taking a look at your local classifieds before buying. At least around me, there are $350-400 basses selling for $200 all day. This lets you feel the actual instrument, pay no tax, and the value will generally hold at the level you bought it at forever if it isn't banged up. It's pretty common to see Ibanez beginner's basses with practice amps for $100-150.

Thanks for this! What about it makes it one of your favorites?

I've wanted to learn bass forever and finally caved after this thread was posted.

Heck, at this price might as well keep one on hand in case a bass player comes over.

That's how I got back in to playing: my drummer had a bass and little amp and invited me over. I was hesitant at first but now having a blast and would buy this if I didn't just get my own bass.

That is a pretty cool deal for a PJ bass. Probably easy to mod as well. I just picked up a Jackson Minion a few weeks back so I am good...... for now.

About 20 years ago I was gifted a used/mint 5-string version of this bass, which is what I learned on. About 6 years later I worked at an instrument store and wanted to use my employee discount to "upgrade", but didn't find anything that "I" liked. I played every bass on the wall ranging from $200 to $1400, but couldn't find anything more pleasing (feel/action and comfort) than my humble Rogue. I decided to keep and modify the Rogue and disregard anyone that said "it's not a this or that". I do/did gig with my bass occasionally it rocked without a hiccup.

Since my bass is much older than the current offering, I can't say if there have been any changes (good or bad) over the years. Just something to keep in mind.

FYI, the 5-string version uses a narrow spacing so it has the total nut and bridge width of the 4-string. IIRC, one of my mods was using a direct replacement bridge from Hipshot.

It is easy on my fingers to play, looks very nice, works well, and sounds great when connected to any amp. Nobody would be able to tell that it was a $59 guitar. ;-)

Thanks for this! My biggest concern about picking up a bass was how rough the strings would be on my fingers. Awesome about the sound, too Smilie
