Pretty much sums up my passion for emulation as a whole. I've played around with nearly every major console emulator available, hours and hours of setup and troubleshooting just for a couple minutes of nostalgic joy. Of course, and not to get too deep, the joy fades quickly with each game and you realize this isn't what you really want or need and you end up playing Sonic or Super Mario Brothers (or whatever that game is for you) for a few levels and go back to reality.
That's great for you guys... For the rest of us we don't play it just for nostalgia. A lot of those old platformers still hold up today. I spend at least 1-2 hours a night playing on my handhelds before I wind down for sleep.

I found Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2. I had forgotten they existed. Great fun. Definitely more than a couple minutes of enjoyment.

Pretty worth it, since it can handle PS2. I got mine on a freak sale on tiktok for under 130, but would've gladly paid 150+. Only downside is the size; it fits comfortably in a Switch case, so if I were choosing now, I'd probably go with the cube.
Can it play Dreamcast?

Why not just use a spare Android phone with a controller instead of buying this?

Those were the first two games I played through on my RG35XX-H. Now I'm about 35 hours into Fire Emblem, with the sequel in queue. Anybody using these just for 3 minute bursts of nostalgia is doing it wrong.

they're all a bit rickety, although there are some visually nice looking options. I think the style of the nvidia shield portable, where you use your controller of choise supporting your phone above, actually gives you some flexibility that beats the side controls / wide format style, and you could be using your favorite console controller is also huge upside. a bit fragile and not quite the same balance, but imo that is absolutely a sane option.

Not contradicting your point, but I believe the spirit of these type of devices when they were first launched was to make a very affordable travel friendly nostalgia trip. As time has moved on, they've become increasingly more technologically advanced and expensive. What was once "this is a cool reminder of my youth" has morphed into a full-blown hobby in itself. And like other "retro" things, most folks involved in the hobby value collecting the items rather than using them.

This or logitech G-Cloud for game streaming? I know the screen is nice, but the feel and controls are more important to me.
For purely streaming? G Cloud. I'll take its bigger screen vs the Anbernic, which is smaller than my phone's anyway. Controls and comfort are good too. But I would hold out for a <$200 open box deal on eBay, I think mine was through Secondipity.

Is there anything else worth considering to get at that price range?

We have a steam deck, but I stream 99% of the time, so getting something that is really good at streaming would be best for me.

I the PS portal ran android. If it did that would be my dream streaming device.
