10 ft kayaks are a great place to start. They are short enough to throw on top of a car or in your truck. Any shorter and they make navigation difficult unless you want to do rapids. Longer is better for bigger lakes, but then it gets hard to store. This should be a great starter kayak until you know what you want and how seriously you want to invest

Any opinions on these? I was thinking getting one for myself and my grandkids one. I'm average size, 5'10"/180lbs, and my grandkids are teenagers.

I like them short, but I grew up on the bayou. If you are possibly going to go into cuts in the woods or on paddle trails, short is great. I personally like a sit inside, but a sit on top probably has more advantages on paper.

A LOT of their kayaks on sale so check out the entire category. I have looked at the quest / lifetime Teton model a few times and one day I'll pull the trigger. I like the suspension style seat on it and features. More money of course but still ~$100 off right now.

2 tandems would be perfect for us right now but also then to need to store and transport 2 big kayaks.

It really depends on what you want to do with it. Some lazy paddling on a calm day where you'll often just stop and watch the world around you? It's as good as any, just figure out how you will move them back and forth.

Hours at a time on the lake, doing some fishing, there are better options but you'll be paying 3x as much (and that's when you find a good price).

Do you already get out on the water? If not, you may want to go rent some kayaks for a few times and see if it's something you want to do more often, see if the grandkids have any interest. Then I'd see what's available locally and used. Only then would I buy something new, even for a decent price.

These are good for casual use. My kids 9 and 11 have no problem on these on their own (they are comfortable swimmers and always wear life preservers). I personally prefer the sit-on-top style, a lot easier to clean, no water or debris collects in the cabin, and if one falls off it's easier to get back on. Trade off is sit-on-tops are a little heavier.

I also prefer sit on top. Even in Wisconsin on a lake a sit in kayak can get too hot. Sit ins are only better if it is a chilly windy day, or if you need to stay out of the wind for another reason.

I have the same from another promo (and color) but I can't say enough good things about it. Tracks well, very stable.
Has one big single drawback though compared to sit on kayaks - it takes some learning how to get back in and flip it if in case you want to "accidentally" dip in the water.

Is there space in Quest Canyon to sit a small 7 yo kid in front or behind me? If not, what would be a good kayak to have a small passenger?

Yes, there should be enough space for a kid to sit in front of you.

Anyone know how long you have before you must pick up the item? I need to order a soft rack before I can even transport.

YES. In fact it happened a couple months ago when I tried to order too. I even tried a different credit card. I'm never able to order anything online through them.
