After waiting forever for a decent price, I got a refurbished R7 for $999. Flash forward two months to today, it's now $799.
And I bought the R6 Mk.I at $1299.99, and it's now $1099.99
Don't know if any of you are waiting to pull the trigger, but I think this is as good it's going to get until December. Even then, it's hard to believe those prices will be better than this.
Also, if you see something you want but is out of stock, try calling Canon directly and tell them you want to take advantage of the loyalty program AND take advantage of the sales price.
Before I bought the R7, the sale went live when the call centers were closed, and you can only take advantage of the loyal program if you call in. I bought the body that same night anyway, because I thought they'd honor my claim and feared the body would sell out overnight (it did). Unfortunately, they would not honor my loyal program claim because, apparently, it can only be applied DURING purchase. The rep told me, though, if I wait next time to call, and the item I want is sold out, they'll honor the sale price AND loyalty program claim.
I'll be honest: I think this is a YMMV thing. Less something you can bet on and more of a safety net if you miss out on a product. Something to consider.
If only in a perfect world, everything you want to shoot is within 2x range and daylight lighting. That's the limitation of the cellphone. The majority of things you will want to photograph (not ego selfies) will be beyond 2x and that's when the detail falls off for cellphones. This still remains the same problem from 10+ years ago. This is why DSLRs still exist.
this isn't aimed at anyone specifically, but these types of cameras should not be sold to people who only can operate a smart phone of any type.
you really need to be a knowledgeable photographer to use these cameras or don't bother.
some people can't get beyond 2 controls: on and off, that is as deep as they go. i know a lady who has a bag of lens and various cameras, but she only uses the 'auto' feature on all her cameras. i asked her about the other basic controls like f stop, shutter, iso, or aperture.............no clue. these types need not apply.
these things are not iPhones taking Fake pictures, it is the difference between watching Lame media and Real independent media. the stuff on television doesn't cut it and neither does your iPhone knowledge.
basic videos on photography can help or YouTube will help you. if that is too much, don't touch this stuff; read this whole thread and find out why.
Don't be disappointed to see how modern smartphones can come close, or exceed 6 year old dslrs.
Oh, I know it's an absolute joke that people buy the stuff still. Actually they don't which is why Cannon is selling this stuff for fire sale pricing. I always lol when I look at the specs on most of these cameras and can't even do 4K60 video.
Purchased a T3 years back. White balance was never right. If the cam didnt like certain settings, it WILL NOT take a picture. "Look a UFO and I have my cam out....nope". My wifes iPhone destroys it in usability and quality, so the T3 sits in a closet. Pulled it out to use as a video cam and yeah, no clean HDMI. This is one of the worst products I have ever owned. Horrible software, bad design, will never buy another Canon.
One out of three pics look pretty nice.
Every iPhone pic looks better.
Not trashing Canon, just letting people know they should really figure out what they want. Dont impulse buy a Canon and find out later it is not so good because the engineers are not so good at software.
Try shooting an iPhone 15 pro in the late evening or early morning. Fine for posting on social media but there is absolutely no detail, nothing but mush.
Had a racoon walk right next to me on my deck at night. Canon would not take a pic. wifes iPhone took perfect pics in 1.2 seconds. Whipped it out, swiped sideways, click click click. Racoon left and I still couldnt get the Canon to take a pic. Usability and good software >> Quality

Maybe do research before you buy a cam? You are comparing your experience on a camera that came out in 2011.

During the last sale, I am told that the loyalty program discount only applies on the actual price and not on the sale price.. I ended up ordering without the loyalty program discount

that shouldn't be true, they have offered the discount for me on sales. that said, i've asked for the discount for having a broken Canon, which I do
EDIT: turns out this IS true — the new program isn't the loyalty discount, it's a repair alternative program and it IS off ORIGINAL a price. supposedly it's new as of the last few months.
pissed I missed the $1099 R6 mk I AGAIN 😖

In some ways, that is really it. iPhone15/Sammy S24 dumb it all down so you don't have to know anything to get a decent representation of the subject. It's like traction control, ABS breaking, and an automatic transmission. A pro driver turns all that off and turns faster laps. An amateur turns all that off and crashes the car.
I keep an S23 in my pocket and take lots of photos with it. But moving subjects? low light? far distance? controlled depth of field? some important event or person that I want to look at 5 years from now? Of course not. That's for the ILC.
It also might be worth pointing out you are comparing an $800 phone to a cam from 13 years ago packing a sensor from 17 years ago that even then was a bare bones entry level camera.
These offers include others, for example if you get the R100 kit, you can then get the refurb RF-S55-210mm F5-7.1 IS STM for $100 off. So $400 or so before-tax on the R100 plus two lenses.

Well the iPhone and Google pixels have plenty of software gimmicks to enhance - especially dark night images. Unfortunately the camera manufacturers see these gimmicks as ways to enhance images with lesser hardware. It's not long before AI will be a part of all cameras. You'll still have to deal with privacy concerns as the cameras "phone home" for "enhancement." The vast majority of digital images are used on social media and photographers are becoming more niche. I'm okay with using older cameras as they've reached a plateau of quality and very little is being innovated hardware wise in the camera space. The future will all be software.
