About this item:
  • A Major Upgrade of the Popular Edition X: The new Edition XS expands on its predecessor's achievements with several essential upgrades. Featuring Stealth Magnet Technology and the company's NEO supernano Diaphragm, the Edition XS produces a wide, natural soundstage that puts the listener in the best seat in the house. Edition XS from HIFIMAN brings the depth and range of well-recorded music to an affordably priced headphone.
  • Acoustically Invisible Stealth Magnet: Unlike the sound waves created by a conventional magnet, the special shape of Stealth Magnets enables the waves to pass through the magnets without generating interference. HIFIMAN's advanced magnet design is acoustically transparent, dramatically reducing wave diffraction turbulence that degrades the integrity of the sound waves. The reduced distortion yields pure sonic output that is accurate and full-range.
  • HIFIMAN's NEO "supernano" Diaphragm (NsD): The new NsD is 75% thinner than previous designs, resulting in fast response and detailed imaging with lush, full range sonics.
  • The Headband: The light weight, ergonomically accurate offers maximum comfort for hours of listening pleasure. The exterior is refined matte black material, and the interior features high-grade memory foam for the most comfortable fit and elasticity. The headphone's structural design supports overall durability that retains its comfortable fit for years of enjoyment.
  • The Cable: HIFIMAN's new 3.5mm sockets are similar to those found on most common audio devices. The supplied 3.5mm cable is user changeable and replaceable.

I have both. The XS blow the 6XX away.

In fairness, the 6XX has a different sound - darker, more intimate, but unfortunately the veil makes them also somewhat fuzzy.

The XS has a much wider soundstage and is much brighter (but with good bass) and crystal clear - no veil. The XS sounds much more 3D than the 6XX.

For what its worth, when I bought the XS from Hifiman awhile back I think they were also marked as refurbished but when I got them they seemed brand new. I also just bought a pair of Arya Oganics from them, again marked refurbished, and again they came seemingly brand new.
tempting, it's been a few weeks since my last audio equipment purchase. lol :~
Been at this price for weeks. You can also add the Crystalline Copper Cable (TRS 3.5mm-to-3.5mm) To cart and it will show -100usd in checkout when alongside the xs

Damn you slickdeals...officially the most I've spent on headphones. Time to get rid of a few.

zreviews since no one has linked: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWmBshdmjaM
- surprise, he likes them
- particularly worth watching as he goes through some dekoni pads

#2 on rtings best neutral list: https://www.rtings.com/headphones...audiophile

rtings review: https://www.rtings.com/headphones...edition-xs

I have a Topping MX3 - hoping it's enough, but honestly, I feel like a Macbook Pro M-series headphone jack [apple.com] should be enough power.

Schiit Magni AMP with DAC add on = $189
Topping DX3 Pro+ DAC/AMP = $175

Both should handle the Edition XS fine, connects via USB to your PC.

The planars are on a whole diff level, I have a HD800s and a Utopia but I always prefer listening to music on my Susvara.
Yeah for $6k you better prefer them lol.

Would either of these also be good for connecting to your phone? (android via USB) Assuming you don't want to go Bluetooth if you want the best quality audio.

First time buying an AMP/DAC in probably 25 years lol
I've been meaning to research headphones again for a long time. This helps me mark that off my task list!

Do these cables make much of a difference? Or is it similar to the high priced HDMI cables that make no difference?

They might make a barely perceptible difference if the rest of the system is very revealing already. In this case I'd say the incentive is getting something that feels better than the stock cable. Looks like they're sold out already anyways. I waited too long to pull the trigger myself

How do people like these compared to the HD6XX? A worthy upgrade?

I enjoy my HD6XX's but I find them sometimes to have that "Sennheiser veil" that people mention all the time. They are properly driven with a dedicated amp. So I'm looking for a pair of cans that contrasts nicely to that sound signature.
I bought Ananda years ago and my 6XX sits unused. I don't even know why I keep them anymore.

Just bought it. I have a HD6xx anmd smsl C200, so I think the Edition XS will be a great update. Also, I bought a 4.4mm ended cable and this headband mod: https://customcans.co.uk/shop/pro...p-diy-mod/

Can anyone recommend an amp (not sure if it needs dac) that would pair well with these? I have a fiio btr3, but unsure if it can provide enough.

Best value/performance headphone on the market. I loved mine.

I now have the Ananda Nano, which does sound better but needs EQ to tame harsh treble. The Nano also costs double. No need for EQ on the XS, but it does benefit a little there as well.

I blunt these a while back. They're better sounding than all my other cans.

These have been my best pair of headphones for the past year for me. I own over a dozen headphones and these are my go to for critical music listening. The soundstage and instrument separation are the best for a mid class $500 headphone. These are more in the class of $1500 to $2K headphones re music quality. At this price, given the experience I have had with these the past year, it's a no brainer at this price. My pair was a refurbished one too and paired with a decent headphone Amp, this will give you years of musical pleasure of a high level, way more than the couple hundred dollars you will spend for them.

I am looking for a headphone that can be both Bluetooth and wired. I am in the market looking for a headphone, can you suggest which one of the Hifiman has that option? I need Bluetooth coz of my iphone and I can use wired for my McIntosh Amp or my pc.

Thank u in advance.

I've had both and I would get the XS all day long. Not even close for me... I really think that the OG Arya at $500 is a steal though.
