About this item:
  • A Major Upgrade of the Popular Edition X: The new Edition XS expands on its predecessor's achievements with several essential upgrades. Featuring Stealth Magnet Technology and the company's NEO supernano Diaphragm, the Edition XS produces a wide, natural soundstage that puts the listener in the best seat in the house. Edition XS from HIFIMAN brings the depth and range of well-recorded music to an affordably priced headphone.
  • Acoustically Invisible Stealth Magnet: Unlike the sound waves created by a conventional magnet, the special shape of Stealth Magnets enables the waves to pass through the magnets without generating interference. HIFIMAN's advanced magnet design is acoustically transparent, dramatically reducing wave diffraction turbulence that degrades the integrity of the sound waves. The reduced distortion yields pure sonic output that is accurate and full-range.
  • HIFIMAN's NEO "supernano" Diaphragm (NsD): The new NsD is 75% thinner than previous designs, resulting in fast response and detailed imaging with lush, full range sonics.
  • The Headband: The light weight, ergonomically accurate offers maximum comfort for hours of listening pleasure. The exterior is refined matte black material, and the interior features high-grade memory foam for the most comfortable fit and elasticity. The headphone's structural design supports overall durability that retains its comfortable fit for years of enjoyment.
  • The Cable: HIFIMAN's new 3.5mm sockets are similar to those found on most common audio devices. The supplied 3.5mm cable is user changeable and replaceable.

I have both. The XS blow the 6XX away.

In fairness, the 6XX has a different sound - darker, more intimate, but unfortunately the veil makes them also somewhat fuzzy.

The XS has a much wider soundstage and is much brighter (but with good bass) and crystal clear - no veil. The XS sounds much more 3D than the 6XX.

For what its worth, when I bought the XS from Hifiman awhile back I think they were also marked as refurbished but when I got them they seemed brand new. I also just bought a pair of Arya Oganics from them, again marked refurbished, and again they came seemingly brand new.

How are these for gaming. Thinking of using an in-line mic
Wondering the same.
FWIW, the Hifiman HE 4xx are pretty damn good for gaming and it's what I'm currently using.

Bought these, using a Fiio BTR7 from my phone and they're pretty good. These are the first open back headphones I've purchased, and I had no idea how much sound escapes the phones which makes sense given the concept, but for anyone as unfamiliar as I, you either have to be listening to these at low volume when in the company of someone else, or be listening alone.

I also have a pair of sundara's and they sound great. How much of an upgrade would the XS over the sundara?

These have been my best pair of headphones for the past year for me. I own over a dozen headphones and these are my go to for critical music listening. The soundstage and instrument separation are the best for a mid class $500 headphone. These are more in the class of $1500 to $2K headphones re music quality. At this price, given the experience I have had with these the past year, it's a no brainer at this price. My pair was a refurbished one too and paired with a decent headphone Amp, this will give you years of musical pleasure of a high level, way more than the couple hundred dollars you will spend for them.

I've had too many headphones way back when. I rarely listen to headphones anymore, and have pretty much only used my D7000 once in a while (often to shock/impress friends). I love the bass of them. Would I like these as much or more than the Denons?

Not sure. I've never heard those but was able to audition the Hifiman 1000's and these were 90% there at quarter the price. It's been over a year and I think there was a Bowers & Wilkins I was comparing too at close to a $1K, but those were bluetooth, I think, and the sound on those weren't even in the same ballpark. What I remember though that I was on a constant journey for years looking for my ultimate headphones for an affordable (less than $1K) headphones and these were it. These definitely need a decent headphone Amp to get the most out of them and for mainly home or indoor private use, but that's my use case for these. I have other more portable bluetooth headphones for other purposes, just in case others are eyeing these for that, don't.

The xs have less low mid emphasis, but better sub bass extension

No, you cannot compare the two. I have the XS and several Sennheiser models including the HD700 and HD800S. The HD800S has a wider soundstage and has top-level imaging and clarity. It's not that efficient so an DAC/amp is required, but the HD800S is a great headphone even though there's not a lot of bass. The XS is a different beast entirely, and doesn't reproduce the mid's and high's like the HD800S, but it wasn't intended to. The XS is fine for everyday listening and has pretty good mids and better bass, but it's not close. The XS won't even come close to the HD700's, which were discontinued but my favorite headphones.

What are the consensus of those who tried both the ananda stealth and the xs?
I am assuming that its just a very small EQ adjustment in the audio program/app

I own the HE400SE. The first one I bought brand new on Amazon had really shoddy build quality. The drivers crinkled at the slightest touch and the headband adjustment was janky. The second one was a bit better, but still not perfect.

I own several other pairs of headphones and IEMs. Each has their advantages and disadvantages, but there is definitely diminishing returns as one goes up in price.

The IEMs I use the most are actually $17 Moondrop Chu II. They're surprisingly decent sounding and durable.

Not sure about a consensus but yes, they'll sound the same if you use an auto eq like wavelet app or eq apo with peace
