The day the OP posted his Abe's thread, Canon USA was selling the Canon Refurbished lens for $799 including free FedEx shipping.
Also, if the Canon Online store is sold-out, click on the "Notify Me When Available" icon. Canon automatically emails when the product is back in stock.
