I installed this fan in our bathroom to keep the wife cool while she does her hair/makeup. It's great for small areas where you want direct airflow. My main gripe is that the blades are difficult to clean. Every ~6 months I need to take the decorative face and wire grill off to clean the blades. When the blades collect even a small amount of dust the fan begins to quit moving air and this task becomes a necessary burden.

My wife likes being referred to as "the wife." She often refers to me as "her husband" or "the husband."

How's the lighting?
It's decent. I installed it between two preexisting can lights so it's not the sole light source. The directionality of the LEDs doesn't make it good for task lighting but it can provide good ambiance, especially with the adjustable brightness. The LED color is warm which doesn't bother me but is something to consider. I don't think the LED temperature is adjustable. The remote is somewhat cheap feeling but not the worst; we leave it sitting in its dock next to the wall switch that controls the fan and don't adjust the settings much.

Actually, these might be just the thing for our efficiency turned office. It has 2 light sources in the main area and we had put regular small fan type lights before. But we've had fans in general be an issue with flipping papers on our desks. Being somewhat downward directional, this would provide not only ambient type light, which we prefer for our office work, but also air movement without the paper flipping annoyance 🧐. In for 2, thanks OP!

Light is integrated? Have to toss the whole thing once the LEDs inevitably fail?

Can you just replace an existing overhead room light (like a 'boob' light) straight up, or do you need to put in some kind of reinforcement in the ceiling for the fact that this weighs much more than a typical room light?

No. You need a fan rated bracket, e.g. http://menards.com/main/electrica...c-6425.htm

It needs bracing, they sell retrofit or old work fan boxes. It might already be a fan box if you can check if the box already has bracing

Most fans/light/remote combo are limiting. I personally do not like the remote option.
