Hi,

Would you consider this over the Asus G14 2024. I recently purchased the Asus G16 2024 4070 because while playing games on it, it get super hot and you can not use it in your lap due to its aluminum hot body. I returned the Asus G16 due to its bad thermal design.I had the Asus G14 2023 and the 2022 version, they all get super hot while playing games. Whats the reason of it paying that much, if u can not play games sitting on the couch. I had the Lenovo legion slim 5 14 too and cooling on that one was fantastic.

If you get an Asus again, look into G-Helper. It's a free utility that really helps users control temps and power on Asus machines. Also, most laptop users aren't doing heavy gaming directly on their laps. Get a good cooling pad, at the least.

G-Helper doesn't fix the issues with cooling. Those laptops just have middling cooling capabilities, and run hot.

Same experience for me with the G14. Tried using G-Helper and limiting the wattage and it was still way too hot. I agree with the other user that a cooling pad, or something like a lap-desk at least would help. I own the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 14 and even though it's significantly better at cooling, I still wouldn't game on anything but a flat, smooth surface to help with airflow to the intake vents underneath the machine.

This Omen has a 65 watt limited 4060 GPU - so naturally it will run cooler, but it will also have lower performance than a 100 watt 4060 (105 watt being the real ceiling for power to performance for the mobile 4060).

Interesting about the Transcend only running up to 65w!

My 2022 G14 ran pretty well thermal-capped on G-Helper at 85°C, boost Efficient Aggressive + a basic cooling pad. Those little machines take some tweaking, but they're not the ovens that some people make them out to be.

LOL you needed to run "efficient aggressive" cooling settings and a cooling pad, and you say it wasn't an oven.

Just turn cpu boost off unless your playing cities skylines 2. Under 90c is good. My 22 can run around 80 below with cpu boost off. G helper is good but it doesn't have the asus mic driver and that only comes with armory crate.

Like I said, it has terrible thermals. One shouldn't have to do all of that just to get it to stay cool.

You do know that most gaming laptops (except for the bigger, thicker ones) struggle with thermals under full load, right? It's just science. The G14's have always been toasty, but now with G-Helper we have better tools to manage it.

And yes, if you're doing serious resource-heavy work on any laptop, get a cooling pad: airflow helps cool hot components. (Again, simple science.)

Yet, somehow other brands are able to handle it without the need for additional apparatus. Including my Legion Slim 14. To say it ran pretty well with XYZ modification and a cooling pad.. is akin to say it didn't run well at all the way it came from the factory. In other words, poor engineering.

The Lenovo Slim 14 is a nice piece of kit, but doesn't it run at a much lower TGP than the g14? So it's not exactly apples to apples.

Both machines have the same power GPU but the Legion Slim has a 7840HS compared to the 7940HS in the G14. So I'm sure that makes some difference in heat produced. However, in retracing our steps through this conversation, you stated that you had to run an aggressive cooling profile, use a cooling pad and lower the wattage. I have no issues with heat running on normal or even quiet cooling modes.

It's well documented that Asus laptops don't have the best cooling performance.

Interesting, I thought I had read that the Lenovo Slim lineup was running that 4060 at 60w, but maybe that got fixed? Anyway, I would love to get the Slim 5 14 some day to try it out. But I'm very happy with my g14, esp. getting 7-10 hours of battery with almost no drain when sleeping!
