When it's $10.49 for a half sandwich no one is buying.
These deals might help them. Not sure.

They are planning to IPO, so they're inflating their foot traffic by offering all these promos. Enjoy them while they last, just don't get used to it.
Short them into the ground with their soon to be bloated overvalue

Speaking of overpriced, I have now idea how Chipotle and especially Five Guys are still in business.
Some people get the munchies and are too lazy to be frugal

I used to like to pick up dinner from Panera, but our local restaurant is always out of *many* ingredients by late afternoon. It's ridiculous when you can't order almost half of the items on the menu - I'm not exaggerating - before the dinner rush even gets going. (For example, they've been out of lettuce at 5:00pm and unable to make most of their salads and several sandwiches.) I complained after it happened a few times thinking the franchise owners would adjust their food management strategy, but nothing changed. Now we just don't go there for dinner. It's a shame because I like their food and we frequently pick up dinner-to-go in that area.
It's a good thing they lowered at least some of their prices because it's not cheap to eat there, either. For $6, that salad sounds like tomorrow's *early lunch* since I want them to have the ingredients to make it, including lettuce.

Got the strawberry poppyseed chicken salad for dinner. Wasn't a bad deal at $6. They did forget to give me the bag of chips I was supposed to get as a side. Definitely wouldn't ever order it at the regular price of $14, but could see doing it again at $6, especially if they don't forget the side next time.

That being said, the 12 oz Marketside salads from the Walmart deli which have a regular price of $4.74 by me are a better deal. And Walmart has a wider selection available at that price point.

Seems like a lot of fast casual restaurants are having crazy deals lately, and this was definitely easier on my digestive tract then, for example, the $1 Arby's sliders...

I like five guys, good burgers and shakes, saw the food made in front of me, open until 10 pm, no drive through only shit.

Won't be going to Five Guys anymore. The fries aren't even good anymore. Last ones I got were soggy and nasty, like the kid didn't care about doing the twice-fried method. And I paid $6.29 for a regular too.

Their coffee is really bad.

Quote from MIA2TLV :
At the store near me the strawberry salad is $14.99 and the chicken sandwich is $13.89 so this is a pretty big discount.

I'm not surprised that they are struggling.
I have the free sip club and whenever I go in I notice several empty tables with dirty dishes on them (and there isn't a lack of employees present).
And on top that their coffee sucks.
I feel kind of bad to complain since I'm getting it for free but it's weak and flavorless.

I remember Panera being a great lunch spot in the early 2000s but it's definitely changed.

I have a feeling Panera is hurting with a sales slump. It's pretty rare to see prices like this.
I see it different. Mass advertising is expensive. How many times have to seen big money spent on lame offers? For example, "10% off...". 10%??? That's motivating? That's an offer?? It would be rare and/or strange if this offer wasn't beta tested in limited markets. That is, they have a sense that ppl will buy drinks, a pastry, etc.

It's a crowded, if not saturated market. Consumers have choices. You might call it "hurting". The marketer in me just calls it realistic and practical. That is, what choices do they have? They can't sit still.

You're forgetting the overpriced drinks, a side salad, the baked goods. The sandwich itself is a breakeven leader.

Chipotle may be overpriced, but have you been to your Local Taco Vendor lately ? around here, the street vendors with questionable ingredients and sanitary conditions cost for $3 a taco and $12 for burrito.
