Nobody beats Wendy's for burger quality in fast food. "Competes" isn't just about price. McD is garbage. Always has been, always will be. Eeking out hundredths of cents per item to maximize profits across absurd volume. Enjoy your dog food (not that all fast food isn't that).
not sure what's with all the threadcrapping, as it specifically says it's to compete with the biggie bag. 4pc nuggets haven't been $1 near me (greater dc area) in years, nor have small fries. maybe drinks are still $1? mcdoubles and mcchickens are up to 2 for $3.50 or $3.99 maybe (but there's a persistent offer for b1g1 double cheeseburgers which are $3.99, as well as a separate offer for $1.19 any size fries, but i know these offers all vary by area, plus you have to wait fifteen minutes to use another). there used to be a free any size fry with any purchase (that you could stack with the 2 for $3 deal) that used to be my go to, but eh i'll take the burgers and leave the fries.
either way, based on current mcdonald's prices, at least in my area, this IS a deal. whether you can super-size for $.50 more is irrelevant if you're just looking at the equivalent cost of the wendy's biggie bag. with the value menu (rip) and then the advent of app deals, i haven't bought a regular value meal in probably over a decade..i assume they're near the cost of getting some chipotle, at this point, which is better food, and you usually get something worth its weight (assuming you don't hate all the toppings).

1) the biggie bag came first 2) McDonald's isn't even trying to compete! Wendy's offers more choices and doesn't upcharge for extra lettuce tomatoes onions pickles. Bun can be substituted. All for no charge.
To make both drink and fries a large is $1.20 more.
McDonald's is not competing well. Oh, and Wendy's still allows customers to use drink fountains…. Here, McDonalds put it behind the counter. And finally, Wendy's offers the coke freestyle…

Get a 4 piece McNuggets®, small fries and soft drink, plus a McChicken® or McDouble® starting at $5 for a limited time.*
It's 4 items. The article is confusing this new deal with the previous one that came with a drink, small fry, and a double cheeseburger.
