I don't get it... This combo was $35 at West Marine a couple months ago and got no traction on Slickdeals. 🤷
Yes and no depending on what your goal is. If your goal is to fish inshore and for species that are similar in size and power to freshwater fish then yeah this will be fine. If you go for larger fish and especially open water fish that can really punish your drag this might not hold up. If your goal is to fish a few times and rinse your reel in fresh water or better yet distilled water after every trip, this might last a few trips salty mist kills reels. Corrosion will start making the reel feel not so smooth and eventually will seize up. Dedicated salt water reels are kept alive in that environment by 2 things, good practices like never dunking it, rinsing after every trip and maintenance like taking it apart and regreasing after the season. The second thing is buying a reel with good seals on it.... like penn spnifisher, shimano spheros stella etc. The spheros and spinfisher is on the lower end of the price scale, the stella not so much and there are other models that are sealed well.
So, yes this would work for salt water if you match it to the right size and species of fish and you understand that it's lifespan in salt water will be limited.

I was just looking at this last night.

Anyone have insight on how this and the Lews American hero compare?

The 7'0" and 7'6" medium action rods come with a CBL-40 reel which I'm thinking is a 4000.
The 7'0" medium heavy rod comes with a CBL-55 reel which I would think is a 5500.
Hope it helps as it seems hard to find anything on them.

What is the rod action of this combo? Fast or Moderate Fast? What the size of the real? 3000? Can't find such on the production information / specifications sections. Thanks!

Update: I went to the vendor's site and still unable to find such info:

With being a combo and taking the most common line capacity, my best guess would be these are Fast or Mod Fast action rods.
I have their Okuma Stratus VI 2pc with 20lb line capacity that is a Mod Fast and I love it.

Thanks for the info! I am now used to medium power and fast action 7' rods for bass fishing. 4000 reel seem too big to me.

It's 69.99 right now at west Marine. But I agree not much traction for them however I did pick up a komodo 471 for 150.00 and a lexa 400 hd for 169.00 can't beat those prices

I ordered two of those for my kids, they were hot garbage.

I felt bad, the pink one seemed to work until my daughter would cast it and the button release would catch and stop the lure from casting.

The blue one wouldn't cast at all. I had to disassemble it and manually activate the little pin to cast it, then reassemble every time.

Cheap zebcos are good for nothing more than filling up landfills.
