Fwiw this seems to be a pretty common deal / price for the Doritos 40 pack according to my subscribe and save which re-upped three or four days ago. For at least my personal history It's also been at this price for the following re-ups 2-23-24, 11-28-23, 3-12-23 was a DASH cheaper so I triggered re-upping early, 1-25-23, and 7-17-22 were all the same price 🤷
Hyperactivity, including ADHD.
Behavioral changes like irritability and depression.
Allergic reaction.
Hives and asthma.
Sneezing.
Watery eyes.
Skin irritation.
Migraines.
Red dye 40 contains benzene, a known cancer-causing substance.
"Researchers also found tumor growth in animals that consumed high doses of food dyes…

We have had it on S&S for at least the last year, monthly delivery (I skipped a couple though). Price has always been in that neighborhood. Don't think it was ever >$15 because in that case I would have cancelled.

Wtf, why is this okay?
Because the levels given to the rats to cause tumor growth in the 80s (don't think they've done this again in this century, though the FDA looked at safety of this red dye last in 2019 and concluded it was safe in the levels present in food and drinks...) was somewhere around 10% of their total diet by weight which is a massive dose by any stretch of the imagination even if you live on just Doritos you're not getting even 1% of the same dose. (There is slightly better science to agree with the quoted claim that it makes ADHD people a bit hyper).
*Note I'm not going to go back and reread the scientific papers but if anyone wants to correct me with data feel free looking up red 40 dose rats, but by the same token here's the full quote from the person's link:
"Researchers also found tumor growth in animals that consumed high doses of food dyes, though it can be hard to translate what this means for kids," says Zumpano. (They go on to say you really shouldn't give kids processed food at all and you should send them to school with fruit for snacks avoiding all artificial dyes and flavoring etc)
