Steve Koecher missing since 12/13/09! The family is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the resolution of the case.

His car was found abandoned in Henderson, NV at a 55 and over community, it had been there over 4 days.
Residents called the police when the car had been there for so long.
We have a rental house about 2 hours from Henderson & Steve has lived there for about a year.
I hope he is okay! It seems unreal that he is really missing.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding Koecher to contact the St. George Police Department at 627-4300 or the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department at (702) 229-2907.
He has been on the news in Vegas and St. George. There are putting his pic on milk cartons sometime soon.

The last time the neighbors saw Steve was 10:30 pm Saturday night (12/11/09). John across the street said saw Steve & his car there for about 20 or 30 min and he was gone by 10:30 pm.
Sunday morning (12/13/09) a friend from his church ward called him and ask if he could teach a lesson that day.
Steve answered and said that he was in Vegas but he could come back and teach if they couldn't find any one else.
That was the last time anyone heard from him or saw him.
On Thursday the Henderson police called Steve's parents because his car had been at a 55 and older community, since Sun, abandoned.
His parents filed missing persons on Friday and hired a PI.

I've never heard of the portfolio. Off the cuff I would say it was a resume. These links have been on the news so I feel ok posting them here. Could you all look at craigs list or something and see if there's anything, job wise, that would appeal to Steven in the area of Henderson in the time range of November and the beginning of December? He's a communications major and has worked in the newspaper business. I don't think he would look for further work in window washing. I think that's just something to pay the bills, but anything is possible. |

Searchers comb desert looking for St. George man

About 70 people slowly marched Saturday morning through a section of desert south of the Henderson Executive Airport in an unsuccessful search for a St. George man missing for five months.
Steven Koecher, 30, was last seen in a Henderson neighborhood Dec. 13, when his image was captured by a security camera walking near where his car was found abandoned four days later.
Some bone fragments were found during the two-hour sweep through about half mile of hardscrabble desert, but did not appear to be human, said Henderson police Detective Rob McKay. Nevertheless, he said the fragments would be turned over to the coroner's office to be checked out as a matter of routine procedure.
The search was organized by private investigator and former Las Vegas Metro police officer Craig Retke, who said he received a tip from a reliable source April 2 that the area would be worth looking at.
Among the searchers Saturday were Koecher's parents, Rolf and Deanne Koecher, of Bountiful, along with other family members, friends and people from the LDS ward in St. George attended by Koecher.
Deanne Koecher said Saturday that the family was thinking of a search when Retke called them last week saying he was organizing Saturday's event.
"This energizes us," she said. "We knew we needed to do something ... to start searching somewhere."

parents have traveled to Henderson and neighboring Las Vegas at least a half-dozen times to meet with police and give DNA samples from Steven Koecher's toothbrush. They are offering a $10,000 reward for information on his whereabouts and, so far, 17,000 people have joined his Facebook page.
"The disappearance of my dear son caught the attention of good people from all over," Deanne Koecher said.
One of the searchers was Jared Carr who drove to the site Saturday morning from Phoenix.
Carr said he served in the same Sao Paulo Brazil mission for the LDS Church with Koecher and felt compelled to help.
He said he found out about his missing friend while visiting the public swimming pool last month in Washington City near St. George where he saw a flier about Koecher's disappearance.
"My heart dropped," he said. "I got a sick feeling and thought, 'Man, what's going on?'"
Ralph Gallucci, who lives just a few doors from where Koecher's car was found in the Sun City Anthem subdivision, said the disappearance has touched him.
"Maybe it was because it was so close to home," he said. "I'm happy to do whatever I can to help. It's a mystery."
Koecher, a former employee of The Salt Lake Tribune , was looking for work at the time he vanished, said his cousin Heather Chandler who traveled from Cedar City to help. She speculated Saturday that he may have been in the Henderson area looking for work.
"He could have seen an ad in the paper for a job and gotten something else instead," she said. "I was in total shock when I heard he disappeared. Nothing makes sense. It's a mystery."
Chad Campbell, the bishop of Koecher's young singles LDS ward in St. George, also was searching.
He described Koecher as being conscientious, well-liked and active, helping regularly with service projects and home teaching.
Campbell said he spoke to Koecher two days before his disappearance and said he was upbeat and looking for work.
"He is an awesome guy," Campbell said. "It caught me totally by surprise when I heard he disappeared."
Koecher's parents don't know if or when another search will be conducted.
If she had a message for her son, Deanne Koecher said it is to contact them.
"I just want to know one way or another that he is not suffering," she said.

Anyway, I still think back to the last video footage of him walking in the neighborhood & the strange SUV that stopped right after he walked by. That's always bothered me.
If I lived in the area, I would volunteer to help search but I am all the way in Texas.. I hope they find him soon!!
St. George firefighters found a decomposed body after the city's fireworks show sparked a brush fire Saturday night. A spark started a fire near 450 E. Red Hills Parkway at about 10 p.m., said St. George police Sgt. Scott Lemmon. As firefighters doused the blaze, they discovered the body about 75 feet down an undeveloped embankment. The decomposition was too advanced to determine the body's gender, or if foul play was involved in the death. It was at least partially clothed. The body will be transported to Salt Lake City for an autopsy and identification. St. George police are also reviewing all missing person cases.
They have never found Susan Powell either and she went missing a week before Steven did and some people following the cases think they might have dissapeared together. I've never thought that was very likely though. But

There is a new search for Steven being planned for this weekend in Henderson and Las Vegas area. It was just on the news and at least 30 people who know him well from Utah are going to look for him. They are checking homless camps, public transit, etc.

After two exhausting days riding bus routes across the sprawl of Las Vegas, friends and family found no trace of the missing Steven Koecher but they did get one particularly intriguing tip.
One of the bus drivers we talked to looked at Stevens picture and said he recently saw someone who looked a lot like him while driving on another route, and that the man was asking if the bus company was hiring, Koechers mother, Deanne Koecher, said Saturday.
One of the 10 two-person teams all comprised of relatives, or people who had known Koecher from church or college was immediately shifted to the route. By the end of Saturdays search effort, though, the 30-year-old Utah man who disappeared in suburban Henderson, Nev., on Dec. 13 remained missing.
Nonetheless, Deanne Koecher and her husband, Rolf, remained hopeful.
We were able to pretty much canvass the whole city on the buses today and Friday. People we contacted were so friendly; a lot of them had heard about the search and wanted to help, the mother said.
A lot of people even asked us for posters so they could put them up and help, Deanne Koecher added. That was very gratifying to us.
The weekend search effort was focused on finding Koecher alive. Previous searches were aimed at finding Koechers body because he has been missing for so long.
However, after several vague reports of sightings were received by police and his Bountiful family over the past weeks, the Koechers decided to explore the possibility their son was injured and unable to recall his identity or was purposely living as a recluse.
The former Salt Lake Tribune employee was living in St. George at the time of his disappearance. The unemployed man reportedly told friends he was traveling to Henderson, Nev., in a bid to find a job.
On Dec. 13, a home security camera captured Koecher walking by, apparently not long after he had parked his car in Henderson. After walking around a corner, crossing the street and walking out of the frame, Koecher went missing. His car was found by police abandoned days later.
