The point was to be able to swap batteries you already have with several tools lowering the price of the tool since you can buy just the tool.. Second, if the battery runs out, you can just swap out the battery and keep working cordless. Many people just buy tools in the eco system that they already have batteries for.
Bare tools like this were never intended for people who don't already have the batteries/charger for it. If you are not in the Ridgid ecosystem already, then I highly suggest that you look for a fan in the brand for which you already have batteries.
Serious answer - The Honeywell fan has 185 CFM vs 670 CFM for the Ridgid. The Ridgid is also much more sturdy and versatile. Whether or not you want a bright orange fan with a front exiting cord in your house is another story…. If I was single that would be fine but not a battle worth fighting in my world. I do have the Ridgid and it seems to very quietly move a lot of air for a small fan.

FYI -- no battery, no charger, no power cord for the AC portion. Even the most basic Honeywell fan from WallyWorld at least gives you the power cord!

Looked at HOME DEPOT -- and the cheapest batter and charger I found was $99. Maybe there's a COMBO that's available for cheaper, but I'm not wasting my time looking for that since it'll probably only be a marginal improvement in cost...and not change my point.

So...$59+$99 = $158. And that's for only a little bit of run time, you need MULTIPLE batteries to truly reap the rewards of a system like this. Or to buy an extension cord (not included) so you can plug it into an AC outlet.

Anyone who already has invested many hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars in this RIGID system probably isn't going to notice or really deeply care about a mere $20 savings on a personal comfort item like a fan. They would have bought one already.
Yeah, so the only real beneficiaries of not including a battery and charger with EVERY tool are those that already have said battery and charger. But for those that do, we likely already have multiples of batteries and chargers for various reasons so for us, a tool only purchase is beneficial.

Oh, also, there is a significant difference in build quality between tools with built in batteries vs tools like ridgid, ryobi, dewalt etc. To bring the price down to reasonable the non changable battery tools have cut lots of corners and are built much less durable. I have ryobi, ridgid, dewalt, makita, kobalt, etc tools from over 10 years ago they are still going great. None of my other devices that have built in batteries even still work from 10 years ago. Either the tool itself or the battery has died and not being replaceable, the whole thing gets junked. While the replaceable batteries tools.... well, even some batteries are still working purchased 10 years ago and are still in the loop.

Yeah, NOW, the previous generation, the one I have, was designed by an idiot, that I hope was fired for it. The previous generation had the battery socket in the back. Yeah, you tell state of charge from the battery lights and that was in the back. The design genius forced you to turn the whole fan around just to access the charge indicator light on the battery to check charge.
I also have the previous gen Ridgid R860720 [ridgid.com], and actually prefer that model.

Who wants a cord exiting from the front of the fan. Know of any other fans that have a cord coming from the front?

The older model also has a variable-speed control, not just the 6-speed in the newer model.

475 CFM vs 670 CFM for the newer model, a plus for the new model.

240° rotation vs only 210° rotation in the newer model. More versatility.

Newer fan is quieter, but only by 3dB.

Serious question - for those using this fan indoors, is there a significant advantage over using a $15 corded Honeywell fan (besides the cord, of course)?

Probably not?

These aren't meant to be permanent fans in your home. They're for use on the go (with batteries you already own for your power tools) or jobsite (where you're surrounded by batteries) at a premium cost for the flexibility. The size and output aren't the selling point - the convenience and portability is.

If you're just sitting at your desk all day, go off and buy 4 Honeywell fans and call it a day.
