That's not true at all I have a set of wusthofs bought in 2003 that are still being used and have been through many many sharpenings
I've had a full set of wusthof knives since 2000 and have had zero issues sharpening them. They've been through the wringer and back and are still sharp as the devils tongue. Maybe you've had a different experience but I love my knife set. Wusthof classic has been my personal "Buy it for life" set.

They also come with a lifetime warranty. About 3 years ago I had to send a paring knife back because I chipped the tip off. They sent me a brand new replacement no questions asked. Thats rare these days.
Overpriced? Yes. Quality knives? Also yes.

Bolster makes this a hard pass. I don't even know why they make knives with a full bolster, they're impossible to sharpen and end up becoming trash in a few years. Do not buy this knife or any knife with a bolster.

It's not that they can't be used, it's why would you choose to spend your money on this over the alternatives. Only reason I can think of is nostalgia, like using a rotary phone in 2024

FWIW — don't go above ~4.x" size on the paring/utility knife (arguably one of the most useful knives around). I had a ~4" Wutstoff & I replaced it with a ~6" one, and it's too narrow/long/thin to be useful as before…

ZWILLING pro is a good comparison. Sales happen often, just not this moment https://www.zwilling.com/us/zwill...tlery/pro/

I've bought the pro santoku for $70 and the pairing goes on sale for $40. The 8" chef is currently on Amazon for $100 but that's normal price.

The bolster makes it a hard pass for me too, but not for everyone. I do think it's a good topic to bring up, anyone buying this should at least be *aware* of that feature here.

Otherwise looks like a great deal.

The 'knife edge' gets chunky before it turns into the 'handle' portion. I've been a chef for years and as a slick dealer, I wouldnt stray from Mercer or Victorinox for basically any kitchen knives. Used to love my wusthof but other than the badge its VERY difficult to justify over ~$35 (for both!)

Have had 10 Wusthof Trident knives since 1970. The remain absolutely perfect even though they are used every day. Hand wash, dry and place in slots at back of cutting board. Absolutely no problem keeping them perfectly sharpened. One had a non-impregnated wood handle. I started to curl away from the tang after about 20 years of use. Wusthof replaced it with a new one, for free. They didn't even ask for the old knife back! Great knives, great company.
