Great spec. A bit over priced & fan may go crazy under heavy load!! Could be Full 4k Uhd or 4k OLED if such things exist for laptop at 240 HZ with 4TB nvme 4th gen.

A desktop 4090 would have trouble with 4k @ 240: there's no way the laptop 4090 can do it since the desktop version is 80% faster than the laptop version.

What? The performance gap is huge, but it's not even close to 80% unless you are cherry-picking your benchmarks. Just state the facts/truth, no need to exaggerate wildly.

Wonder if the ssd in this Legion is a single stick? The model I gave a whirl last year had 2 separate 1TB drives, and I somehow failed to notice when reading the spec sheet before ordering.

This unit holds 2 SSD's. This is the best price I've seen in months so I'm ordering mine on Friday. Just enough time to see if the price drops during Prime Day, and I have to return it if the price goes lower.

You should read the results yourself.
"In Cyberpunk 2077 using the ultra ray tracing preset and no upscaling, the RTX 4090 is 45 percent faster at 1080p, 61 percent faster at 1440p and whopping 83 percent faster at 4K."
"Dying Light 2 with ray tracing also saw huge margins in favor of the desktop card. 55% faster at 1080p, 71% faster at 1440p, and 77% faster at 4K is huge"

If you want to be uptight about the exact numbers, the desktop is on average 60% better but often performs more than 70% better in a TON of games (using the very website you linked yourself). But then you're being pedantic here, the desktop 4090 is clearly leagues ahead of the laptop 4090. These numbers are definitely close to 80% (sometimes greater) and it is no wild exaggeration, according to your own link.

Remember to be comparing at the 4k numbers. Why compare at any other resolution than 4k for the highest GPU?

Watch this detailed youtube video for your 4k averages between the desktop 4090 and the laptop 4090 on more games. The desktop version can get over 100% faster than the laptop version even.

It's kinda common sense that the desktop version is going to be more powerful.

Why? Have you seen the size of the desktop version vs the mobile version? Desktops always perform better than laptops.

All it boils down to is if you want something that you can take with you ANYWHERE while still being able to give a very immersive gaming existing (and within your budget) then get a gaming laptop with a good screen and GPU.

If you want to have something you can upgrade year after year while it sits on the floor in your house, get a desktop.

Quite possible you are trolling and pretending to be ignorant. If not, I don't think you understand the meaning of the term "cherry-picking" because you just did it again. Cyberpunk & Dying Light 2, both with ray-tracing enabled, are two of the biggest outliers in Techspot's benching. Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with terms like "mean average" instead of scanning the article for snippets to back up your earlier "80%" exaggeration.

Nobody expects a power-limited desktop 4080 stuffed into a laptop chassis to compete with an AD 102 die sucking 400w+ of power (much less the 600w overkill Nvidia recommended for those rare instances of particularly low efficiency at high draw), but if you're gonna quote the article, at least be honest. Quotes like these are far more representative of Techspot's findings at 4k:

"On average, the desktop configuration offers 56 percent more performance than the laptop card, which is enormous for two GPUs that have the same name. This includes some especially massive results in Cyberpunk and Dying Light 2 ray tracing

Certainly the 4K results are most representative of the real GPU differences between the GPU variants: the laptop model is about 60% the size of the desktop card in terms of hardware configuration, and it delivers 64% the performance.

Bottom line, the GeForce RTX 4090 desktop is much faster as expected and also a better value than the laptop variant. It is still impressive to a certain degree that the laptop variant is only 36 percent slower than the desktop GPU, while consuming way less than half the power. The RTX 4090 Laptop is clearly far more efficient, while the desktop card is running well outside the efficiency window at ridiculous levels of power."

You shouldn't conveniently ignore the youtube video with tons more examples of how big the performance difference is. I'll link it for you again with the time stamp stating that the desktop 4090 performs 67% better than the laptop 4090 on average.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x...-TM&t=797s

Also, we are not discussing "efficiency". The performance difference is not exaggerated when you're actually looking at the charts. I think you're just in denial now.

Bottom line: You're arguing the two aren't far in performance, like within 30-40% of each other, when in reality, the desktop version blows the laptop out of the water at 60-80% better performance. And don't bother comparing at any resolution other than 4k.

Calling BS unless it was used. A 4090 alone usually comes out to over $2000 after taxes.

It was probably a 4080 prebuilt, which goes on sale around that price.

I agree. I'm pointing out the massive difference between the desktop version of the 4090 and the laptop version.
