They can make it $3 and I wouldn't buy.

Can confirm it's only HD via Apple TV as it does not show up in the 4K HDR section of library and movie info during playback shows HD.

The original Dune was so much better than either of these 2 remakes.... But, the original movie added the 'weirding module' and I understand that wasn't in the book.

IMHO: Of the two, part 1 was really bad Paul was very young and not believable. In part 2 He grew up a bit / acting skills increased; which made the film better

I'll wait for a future bargain basement purchase for 4K if at all
Interesting take. I somewhat liked Lynch's version, but consider both its fidelity to the novel and its overall quality to be lower than those of the new films. I much prefer the longest "fan cut" f Lynch's film that I've seen, which knits together all footage from the TV and theatrical versions (each of which included footage not found in the other), plus even some deleted scenes that didn't go through post-production. It still had Lynch's camp, but was much better than the theatrical or TV version.

Of course, reasonable people can disagree.

When it comes to streaming, 4k and hd are nearly indistinguishable. If you ACTUALLY care about quality, you'll buy 4k Blu Ray.

I couldn't disagree more.

If you have a nice OLED TV, 4k streaming with Dolby Vision is night and day different than 1080P.

HDR and DV is almost as important as the 4k.

Nope, what I wrote about Dune were facts. What you wrote was a lazy opinion cross-dressing as facts.

The recent Dune movies barely dealt with eugenics. The original novels constantly talked about breeding & training superior people. This was true for the Bene Gesserits, Paul Atreides, the Guild Navigators, his children Leto II & Ghanima, Siona, Moneo, the Bene Tleilax, Sheeana, Duncan Idaho's many gholas, Miles Teg, etc. Their different methods of eugenics resulted in them clearly possessing intellectual abilities & physical feats that no normal person could do.

Here are a few examples about the Fremen from the novels: They had names & words mostly based on the cultures of the Middle East, North Africa, & Europe (e.g., Stilgard, Kitab Al-Ibar, Maometh Saari, & Zensunni). They had religious beliefs that mixed Islam with Catholicism with Zen Buddhism with Maoism with a dash of Western pop-culture. It's clearly stated in the first Dune novel's appendices. The Fremen way-of-life demonstrated this in the first 3 Dune novels.

Stilgar (rhymes with still guard), the leader of the Fremen (rhymes with free men), had a thin nose & black beard. Chani (Paul's unofficial wife) had red hair with elfin facial features. Ghanima (Paul's first & only daughter) had gold-red hair from her grandmother the Lady Jessica & her mother Chani. Chani was the daughter of Liet-Kynes & a Fremen woman. Liet-Kynes had Germany ancestry.

Dune Messiah: chapter 3: toward end: Duncan Idaho's ghola was described as "slender man," "face remained somewhat round, but darker and with slightly flattened features. High cheekbones . . . definite epicanthic folds. The hair was black and unruly."

Some quotes about practical efficiency vs wasteful decadence from Frank Herbert's original Dune novels:

Dune 1: chapter 19: "There should be a science of discontent. People need hard times and oppression to develop psychic muscles."

Dune 1: ch 28: "We came from Caladan --- a paradise world for our form of life. There existed no need on Caladan to build a physical paradise or a paradise of the mind --- we could see the actuality all around us. And the price we paid was the price men have always paid for achieving a paradise in this life --- we went soft, we lost our edge."

Dune 1: ch 32: "The Fremen were supreme in that quality the ancients called "spannungsbogen" --- which is the self-imposed delay between desire for a thing and the act of reaching out to grasp that thing."

Children of Dune: ch 5: "The Fremen must return to their original faith . . . lesson of survival was learned in the struggle with Arrakis. . . . The words of the Imperium, the Landsraad and the CHOAM confederacy have no message to give him [the Fremen]. They will only rob him of his soul."

God Emperor of Dune: ch 45: "Given enough time for the generations to evolve, the predator produces particular survival adaptations in its prey which, through the circular operation of feedback, produce changes in the predator which again change the prey --- etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. . . . Many powerful forces do the same thing. You can count religions among such forces."

Heretics of Dune: ch 26: 'There was this drylander who was asked which was more important, a literjon of water or a vast pool of water? The drylander thought a moment and then said: "The literjon is more important. No single person could own a great pool of water. But a literjob you could hide under your cloak and run away with it. No one would know."'

I could go on & on like this, but I don't have the patience to fully educate you.
Oh my.

HD is 1080p. You must be thinking of SD (typically 480p/DVD quality). 4k is more about HDR than higher resolution. Many ppl wouldn't notice 1080p from 4k without HDR when watching on a typical TV at typical viewing distances. Lots of blind tests (no pun intended) have proven it.
In fairness, HD does denote 720p and Full HD is used to denote 1080p. Its confusing. But context made it clear its 1080p and parent poster should have known. https://dsplay.tv/site/suporte/qu...4k-8k-10k/

Tests have shown lots of ppl can't tell 1080p from 4k on a typical 4k tv at typical tv viewing ranges. It's the HDR that makes 4k noticeable to most ppl.

4k uses way more data than HD and could eat up some ppl's data caps faster. Lots of ppl still have "slow" internet where 4k may have streaming issues.

HD is 720p unless called out specifically. 1080 is Full HD. There is no clear details so I am assuming it is 720p
You are correct that about people not noticing it from a distance and no offence to them as they are not videophiles. I have 75 inch TV and honestly anything below full hd looks like crap.
Even 1080p is softer and lacks the sharpness. If you are that person who watches 720p contents on a phone, go ahead with this deal. I too use 720p for daily watching as it is good tradeoff between data usage and quality but movies like Dune deserves to be watched on bigger screen and if possible, get higher quality content
Hmm? You know more about this than me, but we're talking about streaming movies and not "broadcast tv", right? Where are these 720p movies you mention coming from that are being streamed at "HD 720p"? Is it some special digital file from the studios? I thought 720p "HD" was only relegated to "broadcast tv" (I'm not including sources like YouTube where most content is user uploaded from cell phones, consumer cameras, etc). Do some Blu-ray Disc movie releases from the major movie studios contain 720p video? So take Apple iTunes for example. If I buy a movie there it is offered in either SD, HD, or 4k. There is no "full HD". I just thought they were steaming the 1080p "HD" from a 1080p Blu-ray. That seems way easier and cheaper than a dedicated special 720p movie file.

Both movoes, in the Amazon video app, on my phone, appear as 4K UHD (and HDR 10+). I plan to test them in VR.
