Fram still sucks. I go with original filters, puralator or wix

The Fram Ultra (XGxxxxx) is actually a respectable filter. Not sure about the Tough Guard. I'm of the opinion that if you change your oil and filter every 5K miles then it matters less which oil and filter you use, but why not spend a few extra dollars on a better filter? Engines are expensive; oil and filters aren't. Trying to save a few bucks on a filter is penny wise but pound foolish IMO.

I have never in my life seen an engine fail or get damaged from using a particular brand of oil or filter, and I've owned dozens of vehicles. I usually go 10-15k between oil changes. FRAM has been just fine.

Never changing the oil, and not maintaining the oil level will do one in quickly.

The only difference I've seen is in consumption and fuel economy...with full synth tending to use slightly more oil, and improving fuel economy slightly (I track mileage every fill-up).

Full synth in a riding mower also produced noticeably more power, probably due to lower friction and improved ring sealing. That motor ended up throwing a rod and cracking the block, but that's because I drove it on a steep hillside for several long passes and it starved the oil pump/slinger for too long (I tore it down to find out why).

My go to is Walmart's Supertech, made by Champion Labs in USA. Usually 2/3rds the price of Fram, Purolator, etc. It's a good quality filter.
