The issue stems not from browsers but from the SD site itself. The way how SD posts links on here is:
visible url link => referral site => real site. Essentially, this is how they monetize on click-throughs as far as I can tell.
A very easy workaround in Firefox is:
Right click on the link and do 'Copy link without site tracking'.
Then paste what you just copied into a new tab and it will work any time and all the time regardless whether you have adblock or not.
SD has been breaking all their links by encrypting their hyperlinks. Everything is now obfuscated so you can't tell where links are taking you, most likely to collect more redirection revenue
It's kind of a sad story actually. The man that started Victoria's Secret, did so because he did not like buying his wifes undergarments in dingy stores or department stores. So he wanted to create an upscale space, inspired by the Victorian stores in England. Sadly, the company expanded rapidly but took a turn for the worst and he ended up selling it for just 1 million dollars. After that, he had a series of business failures and his wife divorced him. 16 years after he started Victoria's Secret, he committed suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge.

Does SD make money per click or when we purchase the item from the link?

This is a half a billion dollar company , you bet they are collecting every penny they can and shill everything in sight.

No, idea...
However, it would be logical to say: BOTH. For example, click-through: very small percentage and a purchase: some larger percentage.
Either way, a click needs to be tracked and served to the recipient site...
Best to ask SD staff how it works....
