Good Find. Good Product

I might add that this a Garmin-initiated sale, so you can get the same price at a number of retailers.

The same product but with a built-in light is also on sale for $50 more.

Whenever Garmin [garmin.com] puts these on sale, practically everyone else follows suit so you might be able to stack coupons, like mailing list sign-ups, from the website of your choice.

For example, Buydig [buydig.com] has a pop-up* for $15 off $75 if you sign up for their emails.

(*be sure to allow pop-ups and open incognito if it doesn't initially show up)

I would highly recommend the one with the light as well. It's worked very well for me to this point.

I use my Apple Watch Ultra 2 for fitness. I'm interested in using something like this along with a simple computer. I'm in it for fitness only, so I don't need anything fancy in terms of metrics over what the watch already provides. What would you recommend to pair with a device like this?

Many people use these with whatever biking app they have on their phones or you can get an app to pair it with your apple watch.

Ok. So just an app and watch, no computed needed? That sounds great, thanks for the info!

I would also highly recommend the one with a taillight as well for $150 (same $50 off MSRP).
I can't think of many/any situations where I would want to be notified of cars but not have a light flashing at them. It also changes the flash pattern slightly when a car is detected to help alert them of your presence.

In the like 1% of situations I want no flash, I can turn off flashing from my head unit but still get notifications, then turn flashing back on when desired.

I have the $150 one with flashing light, https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/698001, but am not convinced that it's actually better than having this cheaper one plus a light. While it is nice to only have one thing mounted on my seatpost, the light isn't as bright as the one I removed and I'm just not sure if the flash pattern change is really something that drivers will notice.

The only reason I could see not wanting the light is battery drain. If not using that light gave me more significantly more battery time for radar, I might consider using a separate LED light.

I'm still rocking the original varia and won't ride without it.

You can turn the light off. Not sure about phone/watch apps, but you can turn it off with a Garmin computer.

I've read, but can't confirm, that the $150 lighted version has a larger battery than the little one in this deal. If so, it should yield a longer radar use time between charges.

The only time I've had to worry about battery on the 515 is basically ultra distance events where I'm out ALL DAY.
I could see one use case for no light, and that is racing. If you've gotten away from the group and someone/a group is trying to catch you, you'll get notification of it, but there is no need for the light in that case since I don't need to give them indication.

I'm with the others I think that extra $50 is pretty important to have.

It's not necessarily the brightest but how well it cast the light.
That blinking light is easily seen from quite a ways away.
Might not be as good as Bontragers Ions but much better than most.
