Bought one of the S66 at this price last winter. Super nice guitar that I couldn't fall in love with. The controls were wild. Mine came well packaged and the hard case was solid.

All in all, watch videos. If you're looking for a unique semi hollow, this is a great value. But don't expect to resell for a profit or anything. My Facebook has a few of these priced too high.

If you're looking for something similar but even cheaper adorama has "used" / open box (usually MAP avoidance) gretsch semi hollows with p-90's for about $150 less, and if you don't mind filtertrons, those are just $299 and not even "open box".

I picked up a sapphire blue one with single coils last time these were on sale and was not disappointed. I actually grabbed a murdered out black one with P90s this time.

The finish on the sapphire blue is gorgeous and the inlays really pop. It really does look even better in person. It's easily my most beautiful guitar and the one everyone comments on.

I had no issues with it out of the box either. Played well and the action was pretty nice. Zero fret issues. I went over it with a fine toothed comb and found no problems at all. Looks flawless and it's very well balanced. No issues with neck dive.

Not knocking anyone's opinion. Resell value is a legitimate concern but wasn't an issue for me as I am not looking to sell it. There's a lot to like about getting a gorgeous guitar with an ebony fretboard, bigsby and a hard case for $550.

Idk. This is a deal. But isn't. Resale is horrible. So don't expect to flip it. And reviews were pretty middle of the road. Dang.

Similar experience, but with the V90. I've got the sunburst and it's absolutely beautiful, and fit and finish seems great, just don't love playing it, so it makes for great wall art most of the time. My first and only non-solidbody guitar, so I can never be totally sure I just don't like semi-hollows, but those p90 shaped pickups are way brighter than normal p90s for sure.

Exactly. In theory, a great price for a made in S. Korea guitar with good hard case and great set up and workmanship, but the VOX name doesn't lend well to resale in the guitar market. I think it is a good deal but had a ridiculous original retail price (I remember Supro doing the same thing a few years back until they had to blow them out for $300+).

Also interesting about these is that they come with a weight-relieved center block, which I've never seen before. Also an ebony fretboard.

I've always been familiar with Vox for their amps and wah pedal, but never knew they made guitars. It's a shame I've been GAS free since my last purchase, or I'd pick this up. It seems very interesting!

More specs, since the OP didn't list:

Laminate maple body
Mahogany C shape neck
22 frets
25" scale length
43mm nut
Grover tuners
Approx 7lbs
Includes hard shell case
Ebony fretboard

For what it's worth, I got this guitar (Bobcat V90) back when it was on sale ~8 months ago. It's an unusual, yet wonderful guitar.

The finish is gorgeous, it plays great, and the P90/hollow body combination make for some very interesting tones. It might need some adjusting, and it'll definitely need fresh strings (and some getting used to), but this guitar is worth every penny in my opinion.

Thought about buying the single coil version in Sapphire Blue but the wife would kill me!

I was tempted by the v90, because the blacked out one looks amazing and I've heard nothing but good things about the fit and finish, but don't think I can handle the bright pickups.

There's also the Guild Starfire Jet90, which has 3 more traditional p90s and is priced similarly, but is made in Indonesia and doesn't seem to be quite as quality of a guitar....nobody's seemed to compare the two online, unfortunately.

The "retail" price of the Vox is just Kohll's pricing through, and can be pretty easily ignored. Anyone listing this for $650 on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist or whatever is dreaming.

this comes with reasonable quality hard case, which, if you need it, can easily cost more than $150.

I see a few complaints about the pickups in thr v90. Are they non-standard p90s?

My understanding is that they are not. The output of these v90s is low so you will likely need to do something to boost the signal but other than that I really like them. They're not really intended to be overdrive super hard but I think that is how p90s are in general - edge of breakup at most is what they like to handle

The internals and pole pieces are set up like a Jazzmaster pickup, with flat pole pieces instead of adjustable screws as found in P90s. The V90 pickups have a brighter, snappier tone than a P90 and is missing that famous P90 "growl." They are very good, quality pickups but may disappoint those who think it'll sound like a standard P90.

Vox promotional video for v90 mentions that pickups sound closer to standard P90, when set to 80% volume. Don't know, is it true or not.

It's sort of true but not - setting the volume down just a little bit darkens the tone a bit, but it also slightly lowers the volume a bit and therefor still can't give you that "classic P90 growl." Given that it's a semi-hollow, I can't see in far enough to see if they're using a capacitor to do this, but the volume knobs really do knock off a little of that classic Jazzmaster bite (these pickups are designed like Jazzmaster pickups, not P90s despite the covers and shape). I like the sound with the volume at 80%, but again, it's not going to push your amp like a P90 at full volume would. For those interested, these are nice pickups with a good (but bright at full volume) sound, just don't expect P90s.
