Copa isn't a great airline... but Chile is an amazing country with so much to do outdoors that IMO is overlooked by too many people. If you're looking to save a few bucks over taking LATAM or one of the US carriers down to SCL, this is a decent option.

Cops is a great airline. It's voted the most on time airline in South America for many years. I've flown them often, and never had any issues. The stopover in panama is quite easy usually. Copa has a couple of nice priority pass lounges, including a relatively new one on the second floor that's quite large. They are all a star alliance partner, so if you have status, this works particularly well.

Santiago in particular has great weather in October if you enjoy a mild climate. August might work well if you're planning to travel further south to go skiing.

There are some really nice places near Santiago as well, like vina del mar, Valparaiso, and san Alfonso del mar (largest pool in the world).

That time of travel is their Winter season and Copa will make you pay for checked in baggage, those heavy winter clothes. The southern part of Chile is rough in the winter, been there and done that, chow!
