Wow, amazing price! Great deal OP! Best price I've seen by far. Wish I could justify spending this much on a laptop when I barely game anymore

Great deal, but also a case of getting what you pay for.

That ridiculously low price for an rtx 4080 laptop that doesn't skimp out too hard on stuff like ram etc mostly makes this very slick.

I was reading/watching a few reviews and the takeaways are that even amongst other hot and noisy rtx 4080 gaming laptops, this Acer underperforms (GPU runs about ~15-25 watts below Nvidia spec) and is still crazy loud (60dB+). Even if you do not tweak voltage boost pl1 & pl2 etc settings to get the laptop performing in a manner more comparable to the 4080 competition, throttling is inevitable because the cooling simply can't keep up (no vapor chamber).

Basically you're getting roughly desktop 4060ti performance but with 12GB vram, decent screen, good cpu and ram, decent keyboard that has numpad, and a lot of your time spent tweaking this thing so you can enjoy using it for (AAA) gaming without insane noise and/or throttling.

For the price, definitely a good deal worth considering. I'm tempted but nah.

What Superposition settings did you select?

I just did '4k optimized' and got 12054/12980 (on predator sense 'balanced' setting)
I did 1080 extreme, 4k optimized, and 8k optimized. The 10K result I quoted earlier was the 1080 extreme, using turbo setting, and also switched in the nvidia panel to only use the nvidia GPU.

If I recall correctly before I did my driver update, the 4k optimized also gave me a higher score which I find to be really weird.

Perf, I just did

1080P (Performance) = 10392
1080P (Turbo) = 10342
4k Opt (Performance) = 13771
4k Opt (Turbo) = 13130

Rerun them at least once you should see a change, but its weird that Performance is doing better than Turbo, it should be the other way around, unless the card is getting throttled on Turbo... When I get home I will post my for comparison, I also do not understand how a higher resolution does better than 1080 it should be inverse as the higher resolution is more demanding.

Numbers always going to flux a certain amount depending on many factors, such as programs running in background and cooling, thats why you usually like I did have to rerun the test a few times to get that margin of error for the individual computer, mine was +-400 points on average around the 10K mark your is a bit steeper of a drop.

That 9100 would be around a 20% drop for me compared to my 3080 desktop which as I mentioned averaged around 11K so paying $1400 for that type of lower performance, was not acceptable to me.

Ill give you the rest of my numbers in a few hours, still not home yet.

Im honestly just debating on building a micro atx when I get to my location and leaving it there since that's where I go usually for a week or two at a time lol; cheaper and better perf

Just received the laptop, ran windows for a bit and got a drive degrade error from windows. Ran crystal disk and it shows bad hdd.
I just opened mine and it immediately ran a Windows repair on first boot. It booted into Windows finally but suspect I have the same issue. Who else hates the engine roar/swoosh on startup? Pretty cheesy and annoying if you boot in a quiet area.

Yes finally heard back over the weekend that it would be another 24 hours and then Monday they sent the label. While I am greatful for free returns not thrilled with their communication. I also noticed that the B&H website indicated that this model with IPS had been discontinued so that further reinforced the need for the return in addition to the thermals and HDD issues on boot.

Just another update. They have had the return for 7 days and still no refund. This company absolutely one of the worst Ebay sellers I have dealt with. Glad I did the return.
