You are talking about new card bonus vs existing card offer on Amex. That's a huge difference. You don't need to apply for a new card and get a credit pull to get the Amex offer.

Has anyone had luck in the past to call Amex and ask them about a retroactive purchase and if they can still give you points?

if you cancel and reorder, do you get to use reserve credit again? The phone alone won't hit $1000 and most likely will require me to reorder the watch.
