I briefly had the gigabyte Aero 14 which is very similar to this (same specs on CPU, GPU, RAM, and screen). But I swapped it for a 2023 Asus g14 for the following reasons:

- The Aero lasted 3 to 4 hours on battery, and the G14 last 7 to 8 hours doing the exact same office type tasks.
- The Aero had a low wattage 4050 (similar to this Acer Swift X), and I could not get Time Spy to register a score better than about 5,500. The G14 with 4060 is almost exactly double that.
- The Aero chassis heated up under full load even more than the G14. Plus, with G-Helper and Ryzen, I'm able to tame the g14's thermals while keeping performance above 10K.
- The Aero's oled screen was definitely a little nicer, and its chassis is thinner and lighter. (Not fully applicable to this Acer Swift X, I understand)

To be fair, you can't pick up a 2023 4060 G14 for under $700... But if they go open box on sale again for $8-$900 at Best Buy, jump on it. There's just a massive performance difference between a low-power 4050 and a low-ish power 4060.

It sounds like a case of "I'm not sure whether I want to game or create content on my laptop". The G14 is a gaming laptop and the Aero, just like this Swift X, is a creator laptop primarily. So, both aren't really comparable. A creator wouldn't consider the G14, and a gamer wouldn't consider the Swift X/Aero.

There's some truth there, although I was expecting >6k in Time Spy, to allow at least moderate gaming. But to get low battery life + high temps on top of underwhelming performance on the Aero 14 really left a sour taste in my mouth. But maybe this Swift X is better optimized?

Unfortunately, it's a similar case with this Swift X as well, according to notebookcheck review [notebookcheck.net] the temperature increases under load especially while gaming and the battery runtimes are almost exactly the same as that of Aero 14, despite having a larger battery (but that's because Aero is 90Hz and this is 120Hz, plus 7 hours isn't too shabby, IMO). This Swift X is in the same league as the Aero 14, but the GPU is 50W, unlike the 35W in the Aero. As I said before, gaming on this would probably be a bad idea but then again one isn't expected to considering the main target audience.

Great price for OLED 120 Hz screen with dedicated GPU. The other options are more expensive (2024 Asus G14, Lenovo Legion Slim 5 14", Acer Swift X 16") and/or have other tradeoffs like lower resolution or weaker GPU (Lenovo Ideapad Pro 16", LG Gram Pro).

This is basically the best budget option I've seen if you absolutely NEED a fast refresh OLED screen with a dGPU. Main downsides are weaker performance and increased heat/noise due to single fan design, and mediocre battery life. If you don't care about OLED and are fine with fast refresh IPS screens, there are definitely better options. I'll give it a shot and if the tradeoffs are too much will return it (30 day free returns).

Are you comparing TimeSpy at the same resolution?

Thanks for the warning on 4050. I have two 3050 laptops and while they're a huge step up from Iris Xe, I find them lacking even in isometric games. Will get a 4060 next time.

The G14 is going to run something like Blender twice as fast as this, wouldn't that matter to a creator?

Aren't a lot of creators also gamers?

the screen resolution is 2.8k or 1080p ? Ebay and Acer website shows 1080p. Which is correct?

I'm not an expert but I see the specs on this laptop to be good for gaming laptop. But the comments say this is not good for gaming. Why is that? Should I consider this laptop if I'm an occasional gamer (once or twice a week, with games like GTA V and fifa)?

Yep, the Aero 14 just didn't draw enough juice to put up a fight in Time Spy. I guess this Acer gets a little bit more wattage to its 4050, so that may make a little difference. But I just have a hard time justifying either the Acer Swift X or the Gigabyte Aero, when the Asus g14 is such a massive step forward in performance. Heck, even a 2022 all-AMD model will beat these handily.

How's battery life on this? Planning to use it for college so I need some decent battery.
