That's why I qualified "useless" with "in my opinion." I understand, and agree, that 8GB RAM and 256 GB SSD is fine for light, everyday use. I would be fine with a Chromebook that only has 32GB SSD. But non-Apple laptops can cost a few hundred dollars, while MacBooks cost $1,000+, with the occasional $800+ sales events. A $100,000 Toyota Corolla wouldn't be useless, but it would still be underspecced and overpriced.

If I spend $1,000–2,000 or more on a laptop, I expect it to (1) last me a long time (i.e., have good specs or be upgradable), (2) perform like a workhorse (i.e., have 50+ browser tabs open, Excel, etc. without any hiccups), and (3) be able to store all of my important digital possessions (i.e., family photos and videos, music library, etc.). But that's my opinion. (Heck, I would even want it to play video games, although I understand that MacBooks aren't for that.)

I still have a 2012 MBP that works fine to this day thanks to its upgradability. I would have been forced to upgrade quite a while back, had I been stuck with the original RAM and HDD config. No wonder Apple moved to ridiculously expensive before-checkout upgrades and unupgradable designs.
I mean, it's suitable than for just light use. My M2, 8GB RAM, and 256GB works fine with ffmpeg, handbrake, JetBrains IDE suite, Logic Pro, and Final Cut Pro.

Yes, it's expensive, but it does provide features you don't see from those other 8GB devices. It also sips energy; it only consumes ~20W while encoding. Its processing power is also much greater than those "few hundred" dollar laptops.

Yes I realized that after my post. But it also comes with Apple care with the membership so might be worth the trade off for some people.

512gb at 2k is just disrespectful. Like apple users should feel personally attacked r worded... Blatant disrespect
you're 100% correct. 512GB was sufficient maybe 15 years ago.

I can't believe there isn't a revolution among Apple users over this treachery. It's pure greed, pure evil.

The $200 plan does, but if you go for the $50 one you are still saving an additional $50 off your purchase plus the year of membership.

Also to note the AppleCare is only valid for as long as you pay the yearly $200 plan, if you stop paying your warranty stops.

How the freak is 18gb ram considered Pro?

How does Apple define pro? If you do a good amount of editing you need 32gb.
What apps do u use ?

Both bestbuy and Apple offer competitive trade in promos.

Selling it on Marketplace or eBay would be the best option for most amount of money.
