Is this for new memberships only? I remember seeing some people saying that using a new email address doesn't work because the mailing address remains the same.
new members only, though I cancelled a couple weeks ago and was able to sign up using the gmail trick to modify my email and using a google voice number
They made me sign up for the digital membership to use the scan and go app. Not sure if that means the system is now updated to prevent the new email trick.
I recently tried all the "tricks" mentioned on SD to establish a new Sam's Club membership and could not. Only when I used a VPN (Tunnel Bear is excellent and has a free tier) was I able to get a new account. I used a new e-mail, new credit card + a bogus phone number. After my new account was established I simply updated my account with the correct phone number and reinstated the credit card# I used on my old Sam's Club account. Done and dusted for another year...

I just did this recently, via my perks at work type savings membership. Funny thing, my membership was set to expire soon anyway, but I got a sponsored email that said they were offering $20 Sam's Club memberships for new members, plus $20 towards one of their travel & entertainment services.
It was a pain to sign up with an existing account. Had to use an old address, with different email address and credit/debit card. After signing up successfully, I was able to change most of the info to my current one, even though most of that info is associated my recently cancelled account.
I could not change to my existing email, as it's still linked to my cancelled account. Otherwise, phone #, credit card, billing address, can all be updated.
Not sure what the gmail trick is, but Apple mail (or whatever the hell its called) offers this service with a bogus email that links directly to your @iCloud acct. Stumbled across it by accident, and didn't really look into it...hopefully, I'll remember this next year. Thx, OP!
The Gmail + trick uses what's called "plus addressing" to quickly create unique email addresses that can receive mail in an existing email account. All you have to do is add a "+" symbol and any word or combination of characters after your username and before the "@" symbol
