It is overkill for SC2. Now Cyberpunk at ultra might be a different story

This vs HP victus deal for 899?

HP victus is 512 gb with a newer 8845hs processor and 120W 4070. Victus screen is 300 nits vs 350 nits (lenovo) rest almost similar quality. Victus is fully plastic, lenovo lid is aluminum.

Hmm, am I the only one who expects at least two USB-C / Thunderbolt 4 ports from my next laptop?
If you have only one, you have none because you'll want to charge the laptop through it.
Why two USB-A ports? What any at all in 2024?

If you care about the keyboard, nothing beats the Lenovos. Nothing. Try for yourself in a Costco / Best Buy. I did.

More built-in ports would be nice but you can also use a USB-C splitter or a dock

After clicking on the OP link, it looks like there might be 2 USB-C ports with one always on (140W PD) and the other only supporting 1.4 DP and 10 Gbps transfer. The ports listed below are copied and pasted from the link landing page.

-4-in-1 SD card reader
-HDMI 2.1
-Camera shutter
-Power in
-USB-A 3.2 Gen 2
-USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (DP 1.4, 10Gbps)
-USB-A 3.2 Gen 2
-USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (DP 1.4, 140W PD, 10Gbps)
-RJ45 Ethernet
-Headphone / mic combo

I would love to use a hub to add some old USB-A ports. The fact that two USB-A ports are taking up the space of three USB-C ports is bizarre.

I think you're right. The image shows 2 USB-C ports, and this spec page has an extra port listed under "Optional Ports (configured)":

The number of ports is fine, it's the lack of USB4 or TB4 is the problem. I'm therefore looking at Legion 7 series. Those have at least one.

Otherwise, this laptop ticks all other boxes for me.
