NGL - super tempting, especially given the absolute dog numbers the 9xxx series is throwing in prerelease benchmarks. I still might drag my feet for a day or two to see if Newegg matches or actively takes on Prime Day(s) pricing this week.
I still can't imagine the strategy of releasing the next gen Zen chips in a non-3D cache variant, especially when they admit the new non-3D chips won't outperform the existing lineup.
(Note that, for those with a Time Machine, this has been as low as $280 this year)

I don't really see why to wait on 9000 on this price range. Doubt anything will be even close for this price besides 9600x, and for the performance won't even be close. Pretty sure it's a no brainer on these if it is under $350 so I bought one for my friend couple days ago from ebay for $310.

Just to circle back, this was hard to pass up but I saw Amazon drop the 7950X3D to $469 and decided to bite on that one (it's back up to 490 or 500 now). I do a bunch of CAD and FEM for my day job, so the extra cores really will give me a time boost on larger projects - not the 40% more that I'm paying vs the 7900 - but for the overall cost of my new system it's worth it to me. And it will probably keep up with the 5090 I get when I sell my other kidney next winter.

Just bought into AM5, and I decided to go with the 7900x3d, the price is just TOO GOOD. Will upgrade to 9950x3d once it's announced though. But for now, 7900x3d is highly capable for a workstation and gaming.

Damn. This or wait for a microcenter bundle? Upgrading from a 5800X3D.
Idk that I'd even bother until maybe the 9000 series x3d comes. Unless you have a AM5 board and DDR5 sitting around. But you mentioning a bundle tells me you don't. The 5800x3d is still plenty enough IMO.
I'm super tempted to upgrade my whole 2 year old system just to take advantage of this...
lol dam you're considering upgrading quick. I've been thinking updating my i7-4790k/1080ti build. I've had the 4790k since 2014 and it still runs games today with 1440p on moderate settings. The cpu/gpu holds up like a champ. I don't game as much but I just want to build another rig. I may get this to finally do my 4090 build.
