Specs wise yes most definitely IMO but the limitation is the 256gb ssd.If he uses usb sticks or an external drive for most files that need to be saved he would fine (this is what I would do)
If I did not have so many laptops I would buy this for the price,screen size and IPS and 6 cores. This laptop is upgradeable to an additional ssd but according to this

Yes, would work great. Maybe add another 8gb of RAM for less than $25.... Otherwise just fine.
