If my team of 6 engineers can write production software with 16GB, your kid can surely learn how to code with it.

I think he's saying it should last your kid through college until they get a job to buy something better.

As a software engineer (not one of his 6) I agree.

Ya, I'm in the market for a ThinkPad as my oldest is going to college in the fall and needs a decent happy for CompSci. Sifting through the myriad of models is exhausting and finding out that a lot of soldered memory is INSANE.

Cool story bro. Some of us want to be able to expand and extend longevity of we need to.

What makes this screen "crap"? Is a particular spec bad or is there some known issue?

Then your willing to pay a higher price. This seems to be a pretty decent price point for average users who will never need/want/know anything about extra ram

I'm also going back and forth on the 14" screen. I personally HATE a screen this size and always try to go at least 15. 16 or more if I can

I actually am looking for a 14 in screen. Sure in the office a 15 or bigger is nice but I really hate carrying around anything thar size.

If it's thinner/lighter and cheaper than $1k, the ram is likely going to be soldered.

So? I had one that is not soldered - a thinkpad yoga 15. Bought in 2015 and it is STILL running strong. 2 years ago we decided to swap ram, so we bought the ram and replaced it and the machine went blank. Found out that the case for the ram is broken so it can only run on 1 ram slot. I think the original config was 2x 4GB and we tried to make it to 2x 8GB.

There are also screws getting loose and it's not optimal to replace anything when it has been travelling around the worlds for years.

Unless you are expecting to buy and replace ASAP, soldered ram is ok.

Just get that asus vivobook touch 14" at Office Depot for 300 (also comes with a 40 dollar visa gift card). You can upgrade one of the 4gb ram slots to whatever you want and upgrade the ssd to whatever you want and it will still be much cheaper than this.
