I could be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that the 2024 QM7 is basically the same as the 2023 QM8? The QM8 also didn't come in 55", but the QM7 does (which is good for people like me, since 55" is the largest I can do in my small house)

it looks like amazon is offering 10% back in rewards for this TV now when using the prime card ( additional 5% on top of the regular 5% )

I bought this as soon as it came out about 6 week ago after doing some research on the previous gen. It was bit of a leap of faith that it would be comparable to what I would expect from a 2023 QM8 (that I don't own). No regrets. It is a really good TV. I am surprised it's already on sale at this price. I would definitely buy this TV again, especially at this price.

-I chose this over a 2023 QM8 hoping the new processer would improve upscaling for normal 720p streaming broadcasts. I think it does a good job (and my other TV is a relatively new Sony with a good chip).
-I chose this over comparable new Hisense models for the smaller bezel size
-I chose to buy this from Best Buy instead of Amazon for easier returns, in case I ended up with a lousy panel (QC issues). My panel was perfect though.

Actually, you have that backwards- the TCL has a 1 year warranty and the Hisense 2 years. Still not a bad deal though, in fact if I didn't manage to score an open box 75" U8K for $740 I would be all over this.

On second thought I might buy one as a 'backup" as I haven't picked the U8K up yet, and am a little nervous about the panel lottery or other potential issues... wonder how long this price will be good for?

I think it was new enough that there's barely any reviews out on youtube when I was trying to research it. Rtings doesn't have a review for it either.

We ended up pulling the trigger on the 75" one for our family/exercise room. Seems like a good deal.

Any other updates? U8n are $400 more if you can find one, qm8 is $500 more.. Seems like it might be the best deal currently going

Has TCL fixed their IR/HDMI CEC issues? I have two older ones that I can reliably operate with a Google TV remote. Volume doesn't work.

How do you test the panel? Just eye test or is there a more in depth method you use? Curious cuz I keep thinking about buying this one.

There's TV screen test videos on YouTube that you can use to check for screen uniformity issues.
