This appears to be a PCIe 4.0 x 16 lanes, unless Acer is dumb enough to release two different products under the same part number (DP.Z44WW.P01: https://www.acer.com/us-en/deskto....Z44WW.P01).

4.0x8 is an interesting compromise for the price, but it probably won't hurt performance that much at all in most games. you'll be seeing low single digits to fraction of a single digit percent less performance, outside of only a handful games were it can hit as high as 15% to framerate (total war: warhammer 3 is that worst case where it can hit that)

Can this card even hit the limits of PCIe 4.0x8 PCIe? I would venture to guess it won't even come close. Would it even come close at PCIe 3.0x8? Just wondering...

aside from a small handful of titles, it absolutely won't max out bandwidth often enough to impact performance noticably. gen 3x8 would absolutely be noticable. the 7900gre is no slouch, it's on the lower end of the best cards right now, but it's still up there. one of the best msrp values atm by far, on par with the 4070 super without rt.

Amazon shows it's pci e x16

There is no information from Acer, but for this level of graphic cards, it would not be X8. It's not 4060.

I don't see why acer would break away from the pack and change this to a x8 4.0 card. Sure the bandwidth won't matter because it won't be saturated but it's still weird.

I was only basing it off the posted specs on this deal listing above, and that I had seen card makers cut out lanes just to save a few cents, but that's typically on way cheaper cards than this. in this case you're right, it's probably a typo by whoever wrote the info on the deal here. edit: newegg might be at fault then, as they too list it as gen 4x8, but there's clearly full set of contacts on the pcb edge.
double edit: walmart also claims this is a 4.0 x8 card. amazon's specs sheets are known to have bad info, like how in the comparison on that very page it lists a 5700xt as having an agp interface instead of pcie

also looking at a number of r7 240's on amazon (known x8 card) shows consistently they will report as x16 in the comparison window. I think it's telling the comparison window is the only place that pcie x16 for this card is mentioned on amazon, and I don't believe amazon even has an x8 tag for the comparisons, or at least looking at a number of known x8 cards, they all either say x16, just pcie or are misreported at pci, agp, etc.

I'm gonna trust newegg on this as they are far better at correctly listing specs than amazon, plus the fact acer isn't including it at all in their marketing material makes me think they know it sounds bad even though it doesnt affect performance and is just a way to pinch a few pennies.

If one is ok with losing all the benefits of going Nvidia (better dlss, raytracing, framegen, etc.) or for any other reason doesn't want to go with the 4070 Super, then the best bang for the buck in the upper-midrange performance tier is the 6800 currently on sale for $339.99. https://slickdeals.net/f/17621898-xfx-speedster-swft319-amd-radeon-rx-6800-core-gaming-graphics-video-card-339-99

The 6800 is ~76% as fast as this 7900 GRE:
https://www.techpowerup.com/revie...se/32.html

But the 6800 costs only ~67% as much, AND that particular 6800 is a lot quieter, uses a metal backplate (like the Acer apparently), AND comes with a 3-year warranty.

I bought a 2-fan 6750XT last year, and it was annoyingly loud--and I'm not that sensitive to noise. The 7900 GRE is even higher wattage, so would be even louder. I switched to a 3-fan XFX 6700 XT that was silent, and I bet the 3-fan XFX 6800 is similarly quiet. The main drawback is the XFX card was 12.2 inches long and does not fit into smaller computer cases. Apparently the XFX 6800 is even longer at 13.38 inches: https://www.xfxforce.com/shop/xfx...-6800-core

PSA: Beware the 1-year-only warranty listed for this product on Newegg.

Also, for 30$ higher - would it better to buy Gigabyte instead.

This is newegg by Walmart deal:

GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7900 GRE GAMING OC 16G Graphics Card, 3x WINDFORCE Fans 16GB 256-bit GDDR6, GV-R79GREGAMING OC-16GD Video Card https://www.walmart.com/ip/5449004707

This and the Gigabyte has dual BIOS so you can flash one with edgy settings and still have the fallback.
