Just wanted to add that it's up to 20 percent for 1080p. The difference would be around 5 percent or lower for 1440p and higher. The 5950x is going to allow you have more windows open, streaming , etc without affecting your gameplay. Both cpu are awesome but I highly recommend this cpu over the 5800x3d if you are gaming above 1080p.

I mostly game and currently have a 3900X. I was hoping to find a deal on a 5800X3D, but maybe go for 5950X instead?

If you're primarily gaming, the 5800X3D is a better choice. The 5950X is better for productivity but can be slower by up to 20% or more in games than the 5800X3D.

That's heavily dependant on your GPU. If you're not GPU limited the 5800X3D will still be faster than the 5950X at any resolution in games where it's also faster at 1080p. In games that benefit from the added L3 cahce, that benefit doesn't go away because the resolution goes up. Also, the extra cores/threads on the 5950X don't help very much in the vast majority of games vs the 8 core 16 thread 5800X3D.

Also unless you have a CPU intensive workload going on in the background while you're gaming (why would you do that?), a 5800X3D will be able to handle background tasks just fine.

They are coming out with new AM4 compatible CPUs but I think it is slightly underpowered compared to 5950x... might go for this too!

I wonder how those will stack up against the x3D skus in gaming. The 5800x3D is still priced higher than I would like.
