I've got the 5900X in a pretty nice spare machine that I just did a rebuild of. Plus I always wanted a 5950X. It's an air cooled tower with a 3090 that I'll mainly use as a HTPC, so I could get intermittent use out of it for 5-10 years. Kind of pointless for me.
For everyone else, I'd only get this if you already had the AM4 motherboard in a system that you were looking to upgrade. Otherwise get a newer platform.
But if you also do a lot of other stuff and do multiple things at once (like gaming while doing video conversion) then this smokes x3d.
But if you have a high end card and play in lower than 4k resolution then this will become a bottleneck in CPU intensive games.
It also runs very hot.So a good cooler will help with maintaining high clocks.
16 cores wont even be noticed just gaming.
I'm not going 7000 series yet.
Like 1st gern Ryzen (remember all the "Samsung B-die" stuff?) the first 7000 chips/mobos/ram had issues.
DD4 got better in steps so no way I want early DDR5.
AM 4 got better with each issue and I remember mystery crashes with Ryzen 2700.
The 5000 series is very polished platform
DDR 4 ram steps.
