It works well for my daily usage. It's plugged into LG CX OLED TV

That's a completely different device. There are plenty of options in the htpc space at different price points. None of them do android TV, which is what you need for popular streaming services with DRM. It's not that the shield's hardware is great; it's not. It's that it's the most powerful legit Android TV device out there.

I run Plex server on my Shield. If you consider the Shield a "client" that can do some "server" stuff it's pretty great. No additional device and power consumption required for another server. It handles (at least) 2 streams perfectly fine at 1080p.

It can be unstable though. Maybe once a year they change some security setting or the server just randomly loses it's mind. It's easy to fix: remove and reinstall from the Play Store. If you haven't been keeping backups you might lose meta data, play history, etc.

I run Portainer/Docker on my AM6+, and use that to run Plex Server, as well as running VNC Viewer, IPTV Simple, Wireguard & Pihole.

All on one box that uses 3-6Watts of power. For comparison the Shield idles at 6-7Watts and goes higher under load.

The AM6+ uses an ARM-based SOC, consumes less power than the Shield, it's not an HTPC. It's s922xj processor however is MORE powerful than the Shield. I don't know any HTPCs that can play Dolby Vision FEL?

I'd get a Fire TV 2nd gen Cube over a Shield if I cared about DRM and streaming services. Same processor, same CoreElec playback capabilities as the AM6+, includes support for any streaming service.

I'm sure die hard Shield owners will always have a reason for why HDR10+, VP9.2 and Dolby Vision FEL don't matter. It's just not true that there aren't more capable media boxes out there.

Don't care about Dolby Vision FEL, then there's a list of s905x4 boxes with full AndroidTV DRM support and CoreElec support, for half the price of the Shield.
You mean if you care about all the regular things most people care about? HDR10 and Dolby Vision are great, but most people have a Netflix subscription and that's required for any sort of media consumption for them.

Can it handle H265 or Flac?

I still use the 2015 version (Tegra X1) - even the 2019 version was not much improvement on that IMO.
