This is a three pack of mx4200 routers. It's 2x2 2.4ghz and one of the 5 ghz radios. The other 5ghz radio is 4x4. Chipset is Qualcomm.
The firmware is not being updated by Linksys anymore. It is sorted by OpenWRT in snap shots. So you can have up to date firmware that way.
$33.33 for a triband ax router is a great deal.

I have 6 of these from when they first came out. Covering 5000+ sq ft on 2 floors and a basement, with a large outdoor deck. If you're ok with 300 mbps or less, but great coverage, these are fantastic. Easy user interface. They're more stable than Asus (which is what mesh they replaced).

At $100/3pk these are an absolute steal.
Are you on Wireless N? On AX these get at least as much as a 980mbps over wifi (personally tested). Obviously the adapter you're using matters too though.

No clue. No idea why they added the feature. Linksys' biggest downside is making stupid firmware updates without testing them first lol. Their hardware is great though and once Homekit was disabled we had no issues. You can also disable auto-firmware update (probably a good decision)

OpenWRT is a game changer. The question is - Does the mesh work well with OpenWRT firmware?
This is actually a SLICKDEAL. Lowest price for the 3pk before this was $160 so this is the lowest price by a good 60 bucks. Dong has this rated as a 8.3 out of 10.
"Reliable, but average performance". But at this price, you're looking at non-mesh wifi 6 routers so I think this is a great deal.
Mesh systems are in general hit or miss. Lots of variables involved to make it efficient including user errors. The Asus XT8 is known to be a fantastic mesh router but there are many people that have also said it's hit or miss,

Don't listen to them. If you read the reviews it's mostly people who know nothing and are frustrated. Setup is completed with an app on your phone though you will need to use a web browser on a pc (or finagle your phone to let you login via web browser) to access the more detailed things like splitting the bands. But if you're even remotely competent at technology and google it's not hard to figure out.
The Homekit thing is real. I have two of these kits, one I still have on the stock firmware and have had not a single issue, the other in another house we updated the firmware and encountered the homekit issue but once that was disabled it has worked flawlessly again.
