What improvements does the next gen model that replaced it have? Seems like a good deal but unsure if getting it's replacement would be worthwhile to the average user.
These hitachi saws are great in terms if power and reliability but lack a lot of creature comforts. I think the 10" skil slider is a better deal and a better saw to use.
Lasers are older tech, the screw hold down is not fun to use etc. If you need to cut a ton of 90 degree angles through large stock this is a great saw - it's a beast. However for fine work I think you should either go up in segment or down to a 10" slider. The arm on this thing is terribly long too. The delta type arms are far better.

Used to have this saw. One thing that is great is that the sliding rail protrudes out the front instead of the back. Meaning that unlike most other sliding miter saws, you can push it up against the wall without hindering the sliding mechanism.
