I am glad I don't need them (I have HD 560 S). Or I would have to buy them at this price.

I have the HD 560S and I'm still tempted…but I've already spent lots of money today so I'm going to try to hold strong.

I've had these for few years and love them. They are light and comfy even for long use. I use them with a DAC/AMP but it's not required. Under $100 is a great price for these.

Drop has the 6xx for $170 right now. I have the hd599s and am pretty happy with them but the 6xxs seem to get raved about.

Love these. Got them a couple years ago on black friday for this price. This is my 3rd pair of Sennheiser's in the last ~17 years and the 599's are by far my favorites. Very nice natural sound and with crisp and clear highs and very full bass without being overpowering.

Do yourself a favor and just get some Koss KPH40, yaxi pads, and carefully stretch out the headband until you have pillows on your ears. Bulky mid-tier open backs just make no sense to me when there's things like the PortaPros, KSC75 and the aforementioned.

Are these good for COD (listening to footsteps) in virtual surround sound on Xbox?

Sound stage is important for positional audio in games. The Philips shp9500 are equivalent for such a task compared to HD599. My point being that a pair of headphones usually priced around $70 (9500) and another usually priced around $120 (599s) are basically equal in games. A more expensive pair of headphones do not give you an advantage in games.

That being said the 599s are a good value at $90 and theyre good for gaming.

I have both the Sennheiser HD6XX and the Koss Porta Pro and the sound quality is no comparison. The HD6XX has way more details than the Porta Pro and I had to use a Parametric EQ with oratory1990's tuning to make the frequency response of Porta Pro decent. Don't get me wrong, the Porta Pros sound fine and I do like their portability.

Well the KSC75 (yaxi+headband) would be the "alternative" to the HD6XX, and I'm not saying it's better or even equivalent sound-wise. But it's close enough I would take it over the full sized cans considering the comfort is on a completely different plane of existence.

And of course the HD599 aren't nearly as lauded as the HD6XX.

You are comparing on-ear headphones to over-ear, which are two completely different things. I have the Koss KPH30, and it is so lightweight it doesn't stay in place, even though I have a large head. To a lesser degree, I have the same issue with on-ears from Klipsch and JBL. The HD599 is bigger, but relatively light, and I can wear them for hours without an issue, but I have about a dozen other over-ear models and have little issue with comfort with any of them. Like most things when it comes to headphones, it is personal taste and everybody should just do what works for them.

I'm comparing them because both don't isolate sound. I've never tried the KPH30 but they don't look comfortable. You'll notice my mention of yaxi pads. I mention them for a reason.

The klipsch and JBL on-ear headphones look like crap. That design of donut pleather pads smashed on ear I would never touch with a 10 foot pole.
