Definitely cheaper than pulling up & replacing carpet to fix squeaks! Not perfect but definitely helps.

I've purchased this and it works. But it's not always going to fix your noise issue if it's your floor boards rubbing against each other ( wood floors under carpet). At this price it's worth a shot though!

Be careful when using these. You can quickly drill into unknown things under your floors. Especially if it's on a second story.

Respectfully, I have to disagree with this.

We moved into a new home a couple years ago and had squaky floors. I bought this exact item thinking it would help. I was able to get a couple screws in correctly, but then one of them snapped above the carpet line. If you stepped on it you would get poked (and it wouldn't feel good)! Luckilly one of my neighbors is a carpenter and was kind enough to help us out.He really worked a miracle to cut the carpet so we could get it out and then patched it up so you can't even tell. I mention this because it was a NIGHTMARE when it went wrong.

After we did this, we pulled up the carpet in the rest of the home and addressed all the other squeaks. What I learned from this experience is that it isn't hard to pull up carpet and attempt to fix squeaks. The only tool we used was a carpet stretcher. Look at your other options before rolling with this!

I have squeaky floors under carpet but will be replacing them by installing hardwood. Should i ask them to use these on squeaky areas or does the process of installing hardwood remove squeaks?

I believe this product is specifically to use over existing carpet.

Hardwood or laminate? Hardwood will probably be better, but no guarantee. I recently remodeled my son's bedroom, removing the shag carpet that was in there. We marked every squeak and came back and screwed everything down with more screws, put baby powder in the joints, before having new carpet installed. There's still some squeaks. We did the same thing downstairs where we put in laminate and it still makes some noise. More in the winter when the humidity decreases.

We pulled the carpet up and added screws to the squeaky areas.

At this price worth a shot for most folks,, but I'll agree with others, far from a magic bullet.

The purpose of this kit is to silence a subfloor underneath a carpet, THROUGH the carpet. The screws are specially designed with 2 different thread pitches to shear off just below the surface. If you're replacing the carpet (with anything really), just make sure they screw the hell out of the subfloor. What causes squeaks is when the subfloor isn't secured properly, and over time nails that were used to secure it loosen. What you are hearing is the subfloor rubbing against the nails. Hardwood floors can cause noise in the same fashion but also if the planks rub against one another.

Ok so this is definitely a DIY way but I drilled a tiny pilot hole so I could stick in a bent paper clip and turn it around until I could tap the joist. After that if you can figure the direction of the joists just go every 16 inches and pilot first if you hit wood then drill the right sized hole, if you miss, paper clip it again. I formed an L shape with a little bend in the same direction on top so I knew where I was hitting the joist.

I've installed these in a couple of places so far and with good results.

I would guess the same way this addresses squeaks, by putting screws into the floors at the joists. Pulling the carpet up just makes it easier to find where the floor meets the joists.

This is coming up as $27.78 for me. Is the deal dead or am I doing something wrong?
