The solar portion is super helpful so you can see what you're producing in relation to what you're consuming. However I think most solar systems now provide this information.
Cons
Development is dead. They got bought out and that is it for updates and integrations
Doesn't determine variable loads well like modern variable AC
No support for additional clamps to monitor a hot tub or EV
No ability to "train" it by shutting off various breakers
Does a poor job with discrimination between basic resistive loads like the coffee maker and tea kettle and toaster (NBD)
Does a bad job of helping find phantom draws
Pros
About the only real option out there with a decent app and a way to get an idea about what your bill is made up of
Great support for solar and usage charts
Identifies the top three things that make up my bill that I might like to work on
Reliable for uptime and accuracy
Integrations with Hue and TP-Link Kasa energy monitoring smartplugs
So what's the right product to get, this or Vue? The issue I had with Vue is it gives you 16 CT clamps that is true; however all it tells you is what that individual clamp is using at that point in time.
It doesn't give you any idea about what you use whilst you were asleep, it doesn't give you any idea about what you used whilst you're at work, it doesn't tell you what appliance used what.
Unless you know every appliance on every breaker, the Vue is just data collection for the state of data collection you don't actually end up with a useful longer-term overview that allows you to make changes to your lifestyle and equipment that affect your bill.
Alternatively the Sense at least gives you an idea about what's using energy and what times a day and for how long and how that's affecting your bill. So whilst it doesn't detect the majority of smaller things in the house, it lets you know about what your bill is gonna look like and why; which is ultimately what you're interested in.
The perfect product would be the Sense AI and app, combined with the Vue's 16 CT clamps.
