Despite the description, I don't think this is something that should be used in place of a traditional camp/backpacking stove; it seems like something that might be good for an emergency kit, though.

Useful for when pg&e shuts down regional power grid for several days due to hot weather. Last one was 3 days. Or maybe get butane stove also

Look for instalite coals at smoke shops. Like $2 for 12 of these. $5 for a box of 36

They use them for hookah. They get pretty hot and last a long time. Might be worth looking into as an alternative is all I am suggesting.

In case anyone wondered about longevity, I bought this in 1997 as a kid and still have it. Same box, design, everything. Whether for regular or emergency use, it will last. Never thought I would've held onto it this long but here we are. Definitely a good buy. I think I bought it at an Army Navy surplus store. Lots of great memories.

Smells STRONGLY like fish. If you're planning to store then in an emergency kit, the smell will go through a ziploc bag. It's...distinctive. 😃
