Techron Complete is what BMW rebrands as their own fuel treatment. It's a must for people that have direct injection engines. I can't speak for the Lucas stuff as I've never used it. BMW recommend it every 3000 miles to prevent carbon buildup.

Chevron techron is the only cleaner I'm aware of that has PEA which is polyethylamine and is a unique chemical that actually works great for periodic maintenance of efficiency. Good price

All modern gasoline has detergents added, this is just a concentrate. If you've ever filled up at a Chevron station, you've already run this stuff through your engine. It is generally considered one of the best in class as far as fuel additives go.
Besides carbon buildup, the damage done by ethanol, particularly as it degrades and becomes gummy, is very real. I've had a stuck fuel gauge that this stuff fixed within 20 minutes of being added. I've also seen it even out a poor idle/possible miss situation presumably due to clogged fuel injectors in surprisingly short order. These things happen.

For direct injection, isn't it better to use a cleaner that sprays directly into the intake manifold, like CRC GDI IVD Intake Valve & Turbo Cleaner?

Actually, Redline fuel treatment has the most PEA. From my own personal experience, Redline is the King of fuel treatments.

BTW, people who are having issues with their catalytic converters when using fuel treatments are not driving their vehicle to max operating temperature when the cleaner is in the tank. Not getting up to OT is bad enough for your Cat, with a fuel treatment, it's worse. Solution, only use fuel treatments when you know the vehicle will reach full operating temps.

Exactly. Everything else would be so diluted as to be completely ineffective.

Connect a fuel injector cleaning kit inline where the fuel line connects to the intake manifold.

On many direction injection vehicles, like my Subaru and Honda, there's already a vacuum line attached to the intake manifold that you can easily use. Alternatively, you can spray into the throttle body after disconnecting the air intake tube. I think the key is to get the carbon busting chemicals distributed onto valves. Then the carbon will burne off during combustion or get flushed out through the exhaust system over the next couple hundred miles of driving.

Direct injection motors have no fuel passing over the intake valves so this is of no benefit for them. Calling them out specifically is even more odd, considering this fact.

Honda Service tried to sell me the fuel injection service for $245. I asked what this was, and they said it's for parts and labor to flush out the fuel injector lines. I initially said yes, but backed out after doing some research. I didn't need it as my vehicle only has 60K mileage and it doesn't have any gas milage issues.

I bought two of these instead and will do it myself. Some auto services are just rip offs.

That's what I did last week when I learned this was a thing. I'm unclear how this product tho would be good for gdi engines specifically... Since it just goes through the fuel tank and not being sprayed over the top of the intake valves.
