Rewards are like coupon in staples world. It has to total $50 or more after all the discounts. This is how it worked in the past but with staples rewards you never know.

What happened if I return the item that I brought to get the $20 after Aug 9th and I used the $20 promo? Will they deduct $20 from the refund like Kohls?
